Up here in NQ the best discount I can get is $2k. And then wait 4 months for a diesel - petrol available right now, any colour for same discount. I'll have a look again at the end of the year as Prados are too much in demand right now.

I've been keeping accurate records since I purchased my Pajero in September 2005. I can confidently state that the vehicle has achieved an average of 10.36 litres per 100km. Not bad considering I tow a 1.5 tonne van and have done some 4WD work on Fraser etc

Well after a long hard think I have finally made the decison.

I have decided to purchase the Prado mainly due to the following reasons.

        1. Better resale
        2. Longer range fuel tank
        3. Better fuel economy
        4. More torque available
        5. Most importantly, the Toyota Advantage Servicing that gives me the first 6 services at $180 (must be April 08 Compliance plate).

I will be ordering the vehicle with bull bar, tow bar, snorkel, electronic rust (Couplertec), new Lightforce Genesis lights (new model between the 170's and 240's) and will purchase some Sandgrabba mats that I saw at the 4x4 show yesterday.

Overall I know I have made the right decision. Thanks for your feedback and I'll see you on the forum.

I too looked (albeit, very briefly) at a Pajero. Just couldn't bring myself to buy a Mitsubishi. Had the same issue when I looked at either a STI or EVO.

Congrats on deciding, paj348. I'm still thinking .....

If I was doing a novated lease it might make it easier for me to cough up the $55k++ for a new D4D but as it stands I'm still deciding between a DID Pajero, Prado or Landcruiser 100. I can't even decide which version I want of each one (except the Paj ... only a NP DID).

I'm just about ready to give up and buy anything just so I don't need to look anymore

                Negotiating on the Deal

I found it interesting saying that Paj that you found 3 dealers that can't do that price - they are telling you something - prepare for a long long long wait IF the manager does the price.
Too often I come up against a less-than-professional sales person that promises the world then the excusses start:
                - the I forgot one or more of your accessories.
                - the one I had for that price has gone.
                - your vehicle has been delayed again (why deliver one with no profit when you can deliver one with a fair profit?).

                To Chisel -
It seems like RRP would be about $62-64k on the road. I've always worked on 15% discount as a target which should put the price back at $55-56k. Is this a fair target or, given the popularity and scarcity of the D4D, should I be expecting to pay more?
I think you should re-think the margins dealers make on these - especially as now the Dealer is subsidizing the Service Program.
Find a sales person you can trust and is knowledgable in 4WD's, and even if he is $1-$2k more - I would suggest use him.
                You wouldn't believe the amount of times I have helped out clients in a whole range of things;
                service issues
                cheaper after market accessories
                cheaper tyres.
                etc
(After all I send my aftermarket guys a lot of business. -and I want you to come back again).

                Hope this helps

                      [quote="paj348"]Evening All,

New to the forum and haven't posted Before..
I too have curcummed to the Prado bug. Have owned a 1990 GQ for the last 11 years since my first daughter came along the 86 model BJ74 FRP Turbo diesel had to go ... it only had two doors .
In 2003 the GQ got a pacemaker with a new turbo from Turboglide of Wollongong fame - WOW what a difference that made
I recently purchased a Feb 08 GXL Prado with the D4D and the 5 speed Auto (Pick it up in a few days).
                      parking sensors
                      hard wheel cover
                      option pack ...............................
I think I got a good deal at $55 K any comment on that :?:
Oh yes it only has 1500 Klm on it too... apparantly it is too big for a lady in sydney to be a shopping trolley - she prefers the Rav 4.
                      Lucky me
I have got my new rocket

Well I've done the deed, ordered my new D4D GXL today in Charcoal. Added extras are Sovereign bull bar, tow bar, safari snorkel, lightforce genesis lights (new model, between the 170 and 240's), Prado mats and a full tank of diesel.

Best part of all, someone has cancelled their order and I will have it delivered in June, have this on the contract and have been given a batch number. I was just very lucky I suppose but I am not complaining considering the normal wait.

Will post some pics once I get the beast and will now have to change from paj348 to something more appropriate.

                          parking sensors

Congrats paj348. Like yourself, I seem to be another lucky 'waiter'. 3 weeks to go and the week and a half I've been waiting seems like a bloody eternity. Before all you fair-dinkum waiters start screaming about getting some time up, remember it's all relative. To what I'm not sure, I only know I'm impatient and must be driving my dealer closer to insanity. Anyway paj348, you mentioned parking sensors on your new GXL. I've seen mention of this on a few threads and I thought on some Toyota literature, but to be honest it is all becoming a bit of a blur. Can anyone let me know if parking sensors are standard on the GXL or not? I might be a bit of a dinasaur, but when I do a search to look for threads on any subject in Pradopoint, after looking at the first hit, when I go back to the 'hit list' it has gone and I have to do another search and so on and so on. While it is good fun and fills in the time while waiting for the baby to arrive, it also gives me the sh**ts.
                          Cheers

whoops, just discovered the refresh button. One problems solved, now I only have to find out about the sensors and I can go to bed and lie awake all night finding something else to worry about tomorrow .... and I love every minute of it. I think the park sensors are an option only on all models. They are not standard on the Grande so I would expect the GXL would definiently not get them.

Thanks mate. Was just reading on another thread about someone purchasing it for $500 and figured that might be the case. Oh well I need to get excercise somehow if I'm going to be sitting in all this comfort and luxury, so back to looking over the shoulder. By the sound of it, this is still the best way (unless you have a grande).
