Mine was about $55,000 (08 plated GXL auto) on the road with mats & metallic paint & no other options. I didn't get my finance from the dealer.

I have a recent quote this month for a petrol GXL. The "highlights" are:

      Car $52,424
      Silver paint $272
      Bullbar $1,730
      Towbar $427
      Hello 400 compact spots $520
      - Fitting $170
      Ming window Tint $500
      Delivery $1,380

      SubT $57,423

At this point negotiate the discount as the rest is subject to the price of the car ....

      GST $5,742
LCT $1,539 (cuts in at $57,009 incl GST)

      Stamp Duty, Rego, CTP $3,000

      Total cost $67,704.

That is a rip off big time!!!!!! i paid under 55k with all of the kit and we financed it through toyota finance at some of the cheapest rates around.

          They are massive discounts.

Hutch, which dealer did you use as I must get some pricing from Brisbane.

I used sci fleet, however it was a year ago, and you need to remember stamp duty has gone from 2% to 3.5% which will add about 800 bucks.

When I was looking to buy a Prado in June-July 2007 one of the dealers in Melbourne advertised brand new GXL petrol for $51,990 plus on roads. I guess it was the end of financial year (June) and they wanted to move as many as they could. So, it's nothing new. Looks like they do it fairly regularly. Actually I ended up of buying my GX D4D from the same dealer.

Just curious if anyone has heard anything more concrete about drops in prices or sales for the petrol.

                      Hi Navy,
I asked myself the very same question. And then I thought-do I really need a diesel GXL? I did not want to stretch my budget too far as I wasn't leasing the car.
Alloys? Not really, can live with steel rims. Roof rails? Definite NO-garage clearance too low. 6 CD stacker? I can add it later (or better still add an IPod compatible player with much better sound). Fog lights? Later.
Option available at the time gave me ABS, stability control, driver/passenger air bag, aircon, leather bound steering wheel and gear stick. Ended up buying a diesel GX with option plus auto, Toyota HD tow bar, mats-on the road 52K.
                      Cheers

                        Hornet,

                        I like your thinking.

Just based to millage, you would need to drive about 60 000KM to recoup the 6K Diesel premium on a GXL.

I doubt anyone would have paid anywhere close to RRP. Most petrol and diesel deals I know of are around 51 for just the vehicle.
