I am interested to know where this $5000 premium for the Deisel theory comes from.

As quoted on the Toyota web-site the diffence between petrol and deisel engines in the same modal level with the same transmission is only $1000. The same is quoted in 4wd mags in their price comparisons at the back of the mag.

That was the main reason I went for a Prado in the first placeas they did not charge a premium for deisel.

The D4D is a killer engine in my opinion.

I know hunting for a 2nd hand Prado a couple of years ago the difference between similar Prado models but with petrol v's diesel engines was between 3K and 5K... That I would say would be due more to the resale value of a diesel engine after a few 100,000k's are on the clock...

As you say though it's not so with new pricing...
      http://www.toyota.com.au/toyota/vehi...65_582,00.html

      Grande 4.0L = $75,430.00
      Grande TD = $76,430.00

When I bought my Petrol in June 2007 the difference between petrol & diesel was $7,500 & this buys an awful lot of petrol - especially with the price differential between them now.

I bought a petrol & couldn't by happier. I know there is only $1,000 in the official price but Toyota do drop the price on petrol sometimes. I think the official drop in price last June was in excess of $5,000. Then the rest was from a better trade in price as they had a petrol in stock & diesel was a long term order.

Retail price and what is charged is driven by dealer stock levels. While there continues to be demand for the D4D in excess of supply discounting will be tight and while there are petrols sitting in dealers yards or holding areas petrols will get 'special' discounts. What you see on the web isn't anything other than a guide. Different dealers gave me different prices on stuff like towbars, reversing sensors and tinting; it all depended on the vehicle price and what deals they were prepared to do. There is another thread that talks about current discounts on petrols and I know when I bought earlier this year I was told that the dealer could do a really good deal on 07 plated V6s that just happened to be in stock.

            Hi All,

If I had the money, I would have ordered a VX model D4D Diesel Auto.

Mainly for the seat Adjustments and other safety stuff TC, SideBags etc...

But I am happy with my GXL Version.

Great to drive and plenty of gunt too.

We bought our petrol 2005 VX a couple of months back. Super happy so far. Only thing we missed that we wanted was leather, but at the price we picked it up for i wasn't going to miss out for that.
It's mainly for the kids so the CFO wanted all the airbags, which meant either vx or grande and the grande has too many toys to go wrong
New would have been nice but then "the talk" after bringing it home bushstriped would have been that much longer

Re: Do you wish you had bought a different model Prado?

After 6 months and 15,000km with our GXL D4D Prado - I am very glad we chose the model we did. The savings from not purchasing a VX has allowed us to achieve all the extra modifications and extras we had wanted. We still really enjoy the diesel over the petrol. In a perfect world, we'd have one of each.

We are very happy campers indeed with our choice of Prado. 8)

Re: Do you wish you had bought a different model Prado?

We are very happy with our 07 Grande diesel D4D . Our children have put their hand up for it to be passed on to them when we are finished with it.
Love the comfort of long distance driving and the power of the D4D off road. It has 64k on the clock and averaged 9.6 k per litre.
Things we would change are the sun roof, it is only used when the grandkids ask for it to be opened. The front passenger side seat dosen't have all the controls that the driver side has, would like lunber support. Love the cold drinks out of the fridge.

Like a number of people on here I would have loved a D4D and I must admit I sometimes look in jealousy at folk driving them wishing I was one of them - then I remind myself of how I lucky I am to be in a Prado and not a Pajero or Patrol. I would have also loved an extra gear (the 5spd rather than the 4spd).

If I had unlimited funds I would have chosen a Gun Metal Grey D4D GXL Auto - maybe next time!

Got my wish. Picking up a new 2009 VX V6 Prado, just love the power and acceleration of the petrol. Say bye bye to my Green 2003 GXL. I would have liked to get a Dune coloured one but was only able to secure a Pearl white one instead. Oh well thems the breaks.

                        Regards

Re: Do you wish you had bought a different model Prado?

We have a 2008 Grande D4D and love it, auto leveling suspension is great while towing and the list goes on.
I bought the Toyota Motorsport DEPK for it 2 months ago, and it is amazing what a difference it has made to the power.
Got the Genuine Toyota warranty for 6 years, so we will be keeping it for a while.
But the next Toyota we will buy will be the 200 series TDV8, what a weapon !

For the money we payed, there's no way I'd get a D4D even if I'd love it, I'm sure most would.
You missed a big one in the poll...

If you bought a GX/Standard would you prefer a GXL or higher spec?

I love my GX and am happy with everything BUT... the $2400 I had to spend on new wheels/tyres could have been spent on tyres/locker? or tyres/bullbar? The only think I really don't get - the GX are the work vehicle, probably more likely to do a little offroad rather than becoming a toorak tractor :?

I own a Grande because I can, Ive been around OZ in it, along the Savannah way past Hells gate, so I would not class mine as a Toorak tractor.
But I am ready for Toorak now, because I can.

Mine's an 06 TD GXL. Would love the D4D as long as the injectors are working fine and not rattling away. Like Madkore I would love the extra gear. Hopefully something to sit between 1st and 2nd and I'm glad I've got a Prado and not a Poojero but I've always had a special place for Nissans and the Patrols but I don't like the economy.

I love my car and wont trade it in for a long time yet but I also try and use it as much as I can for what it was esigned for and boy can it perform when it needs to!
