  • Do you wish you had bought a different model Prado?

I must confess, I often find myself thinking about whether I would prefer a D4D... however that all changes once I wind down the window and put the foot down.

That 4 litre is a mighty sweet and horny engine - I never get tired of it's power, refinement and sound... not even when I'm filling it at the local servo...

I just wondered whether anyone else harboured lustful thoughts about a Prado different to theirs...

Hey Matt ... same boat here.

Bought my '03 model as I just had to get into a Prado.

Test drove the V6 and the old diesel .... no comparison .... and have not regretted buying the petrol (especially now with the price of diesel  )

      .... but .....

When I change this one over I'll be looking for a second hand D4D shopping trolley and visiting the odd accessory store or TEN !

Maybe when I'm ready for my D4D the wait won't be so long

      Cheers

I waited until the 5 speed auto came out and havent regretted a thing. The extra price for the VX didnt justify the traction control..

i got the first silver 5 speed auto off the boat in OZ

I have often wondered why so many people on this forum have bought the petrol model. When I test drove the petrol it did not exite me, verses the D4D.

In my corner of the planet (South Africa) Toyota still sells Parados with the old diesel. The D4D is not available in the Prado, although it is available in the HiLux and Fortuner models. Very strange.

The Toyota dealers over here will all tell you that the most common question they get asked by every prospective Prado buyer is "When will the Prado be available with the D4D engine."

When I asked that question of my local Toyota dealer I was told that it will not be available in the Prado until the next version of the Prado is released, which they expect will be in 2010.

If that's true then it's sacrilege!

The Prado absolutely should be available with whatever engines are the latest.

I've never liked diesel engines but after driving a friend's Fortuner with the D4D I started to doubt myself.

same Matt, except I bought mid 07 when there were none on the 2nd hand market - not that I would have had the extra $$ if they were.

Where's the 'None of the above' option??

I love my 90 series and really have never found my self wanting for a 120 series yet... or a 90 diesel for that matter... and I love the trimmings of the VX Grande's. Capable + Practical + Comfort 8)

About as close as I have come to a statement resembling one of those listed is...

When I finally drive my 98 VX V6 petrol into the ground... (probably in another 3 years or so... should have about 300,000 klm on the clock by then) I'll be looking out for possibly a D4D or something similar.
                            Cheers, Leon
