  • Dealership Recommendations

    Hi All,

My parents are looking to purchase a new Prado to travel around Australia with upon the old man's retirement.

I've suggest they request for the 2.8L turbo diesel over the petrol and the older 3L model.

Are there any other add on's you guys would recommend for the above mentioned travel intentions?

In reference to the title, are there any great dealerships to deal with? A quick search on Whirlpool reveals an entire array of negativity surrounding toyo dealers.

    Many thanks in advance.

may help if you put your actual location (state at least) instead of 'Australia'.

      ^Yep.

Choosing which dealer is a bit like choosing your executioner.

Jeez that's harsh. My dealer was great, good price no crap and everything was as promised and above my expectation. I didn't screw them to the wall on price though but looking at what people were saying they paid I got a great price with all the accessories thrown including the Toyota extra warranty - so I like my dealer. If dealers are that bad you don't have to use them, it's called buying second hand. There are always low Klm near new cars out there for sale . When they break take them to your local mechanic not a dealer and just pay for the repairs, easy, you'll never have to visit a dealer again.

To "Pado150_" there are good dealers out there but like everything in life, advice included, there is good and bad.

              Cheers

That's great advise! Keep reminding me please. Don't buy new!
But they don't break, so it will be just service d.i.y is some of the best servicing you will get.

In my experience if you think there is a good dealer you have not had a bad experience yet, but you may not know what to look for.
So it may appear good. But then to be fair you could be very lucky.
There's certainly good people mixed about big businesses, but not always the same kid working on your truck.

                    Hi Prado 150,

If I could make a suggestion in regards to buying a new Prado. I just purchased a run out 3L model last week and I saved thousands, they were up until recently advertising them for $62990 for a GXL T/D auto drive away, that has since finished and all the remaining ones are going cheaper.

Toyota gives the dealership a rebate back to off load what they have remaining.
I ended up getting a few grand off it further than the run out price.

I too considered waiting for the 2.8 and who knows may regret the decision, but at that price it was too big a saving to ignore.

Sounds like some of you guys got screwed at dealerships. May be just the person you dealt with or it might be that some customers are asses. Fortunately my dealer is a country dealer and they know that customer service is important, especially in this climate.

The other alternative these days is to shop on line and buy from the cheapest and service/warranty repair at the most convenient.

I guess this is part of the problem. If you screw the dealer so hard he is doing the deal just to turn stock then he can't afford to give you service, then you want to land another dealer with your warranty job and go off at him if it doesn't go well? Unfortunatley money makes the world go around, you want service and good product etc be prepared to pay for it, its the difference between going to the Apple shop or going to JB hifi.

I have to say Launceston Toyota treated me very well for service. Not sure about their sales. They were also a sponsor for this year's GTG. Launceston may or may not be near you. Where are you located?

I personally will only deal with my local guy as I like the service and the no nonsense attitude. If you did buy on-line and then serviced somewhere else don't worry, as most dealerships have different warranty rates that are paid by the factory and for a visiting owner (someone who didn't buy from your dealership) you were paid extra from the manufacturer. I assume Toyota do the same.

As for going off at a dealer, some people are jerks, some are nice. Guess who gets better service.

                            Cheers
