Hi,
I am looking a getting a new auto 4x4 and test drove the Fortuner and Prado 2.8 diesels on the weekend.
They are both great vehicles but I found them both a bit gutless in acceleration, particularly the Prado.
After some research, it seems that many owners think the new engine struggles, particularly in the 5th & 6th (overdrive) gears.
I have a 2008 Disciovery3 2.7 diesel, which was a bit the same when new, but a diesel chip gave it plenty of extra power & it cruises towing a camper in 6th no problems.
I want to ensure whatever new vehicle I get can similarly overtake quickly and accelerate when needed.
So, has anyone put a chip in the new Prado?
If so, did it help enough to make you happy when towing or accelerating generally?
Please don't answer if you just have an opinion about chips, as I would like to know from anyone who has actually done it on the new engines.
I will get the Prado petrol 4l if the diesel chip does not help give the diesel enough grunt.
thanks,
