  • No New Prado Petrol Versions left in Australia?

    Hello,

    I am a new member
Thanks for adding me to the group.

I went to a dealer today to order a new Prado petrol XV, but he says there are none in Australia?
I really wanted a petrol engine as I am mainly city bound but like the 4x4 for odd adventures and a bit of towing (so dont need the extra torque of diesel).

Is it really true that there are no petrol versions of the new prado left in Australia?
The dealer said he could even see where to order one online...

The toyota.com.au website still shows both the petrol and diesel versions as options on the website.

If I cant get petrol I will go by the diesel version as I think it will still be a great car.

    Many thanks

    Jan :-)

The new shape is about to land next month with the petrol engine deleted from the range. Doubt you can order any more current shape Prados in the petrol model from Japan.

It's a shame that Toyota deleted the petrol models.

          Would you consider used?

Carsales.com.au has a 2016 VX petrol, in Canberra, with 32,000kms for just under $60,000. But no new models - looks like you've missed that boat!

So with some governments around the world reportedly considering banning diesel cars/4wds from their capital cities, I wonder if Toyota is only offering the diesel variant in the Australian market so they can maintain large numbers of sales for the diesel.

Toyota isn't the first 4wd manufacturer to drop a petrol offering along with the manual version for vehicles in Australia. Mitsubishi did it about a year ago for the Pajero and Pajero Sport

Then again, Nissan did the opposite (re the Patrol). I think its driven by economies of the desired market.

Economy may be one component of it. As for unacceptable, im sure thats debatable - eg my simpson crossing last year i used 20 L/100 LPG vs my friends P150 D4D getting 14 L/100. I got up the hard track of Big Red; he couldnt.

Look at the mix of Petrol vs Diesel in the USA; Middle East

Not boasting, but my P150 D4D got up Big Red first time (ok, so I am boasting) and so did an Amarok TDI. It has more to do with tyre pressures and finding the right gear at the right time. Autos (especially 8 speed ones) have a handy advantage on sand dunes.

I have not been in Simpson, but I have been researching it, so from what I have seen so far, it also very much depends on the humidity of the sand and how many people were there before you (state of the track up the dune). SO some people can go up easily at one date, but if they would try couple of months later or earlier, they would have hard time.
Just my observation, correct me if I am wrong. You can only compare if you can get up or not, on that same day.

The reaon that Diesels are being banned in lots of European (and Indian) cities is because of the harmful effects of ultra-fine particles on your lungs. This is going to be a big problem unless something is done worldwide.

The only reason Diesel engines are in passenger cars at all is because the European Union decided (about 10 years ago) that because Diesels produce less harmful emissions for the Ozone Layer and atmosphere, (and use less fuel), they should be encouraged, and petrol engines discouraged.

Unfortunately they didn't consider the effects on humans: Petrol engines have little or no ultra-fine particle emissions, and Diesels have (comparatively) vast amounts...

So the compromise is: save the atmosphere, or save your lungs?
