    Re: pricing for the 150

I think the Pajero's seem to be holding their value pretty well.

I should know, I just traded mine in on a new Prado today. I was really happy with the trade-in value I got which paid out my lease after only 2 years.
    Thanks,

Try reading my post....you have quoted it your post.

My point is simple. Is the Prado 150 $10K better value that something like the Challenger. If money was no object I would not hesitate to buy another Prado.

As far as offroad.a couple of things to concider. The 150 GX Man has traction control, so does the Challenger, the 150 has Stability Control (dont know this helps off road...anyway), so does the Mitzy, the prado has NO factory diff lock available, the Mitzy does on all models, the 150 has a push button electronic 4wd system, the Mitzy has a little subby level just the god intended 4wd's to be.

The money tree in the back yard has not been watered due to the water restrictions down here in Melbourne so I have to look at other options and so far the Challender ticks all the boxes, except maybe the ability to tow my camper comfortably but a couple of test drive will sort that out.

At this stage I could almost get a fully kitted Pootrol for the same price as a 150......

My Grande is now 4 years old and done 22000km, The wife and i went down to the local dealer for a look at the new beast, had a look at the truck, did all the normal things pushed and pulled things sat in it etc, then the sales man said can i help you. i said how much, He said $100,005.00 on the road, My wife Karen said well it looks like we will be haning on to our old one as there is no way in hell i am paying 100000k for a Prado. The rear seat set up and faulse floor is cheap and nasty, the carpet looks cheap, the leather looks like rubber and smells like old plastic bags, But i like the steering wheel, sorry there is no way i will buy one, Mr Toyota has made a mistake here. And what about the shorty why would you bother. if that is a $100000 Toyota my 120 is worth $95000.
          regards SKYCAT
          I hope i havent got a lemon, now 4 1/2 years on i know i have.

There are other more subtle differences that nobody ever wants to use but the Mitsu has the Mitsubishi's Diamond Advantage combines a 10-year or 160,000km* Powertrain Warranty, a 5-year or 130,000km* new vehicle warranty, and a 5-year perforation warranty. 5-year roadside assist is also included through the typical motoring organisations. Reading the Toyota offering of 3 years and you call your local dealer when in trouble or pay for a motoring organisation membership

              Hi again,

I did read your post and sisnce it drew a comparison between the Chalenger and Prado I thought I would pass comment, to compare price is hard if not impossible as the vehicles are in different classes, its like comparing a WRX and a Porsche 911 turbo AWD, sure both will do the same job, but is the porsche $200000 better? Personal choice.

It wasnt a shot at you, more agreeing with you, however I could not bring myself to buy a Triton based machine, at any cost, I have seen too many die under fire to buy one.

The Tranfer lever in the Triton isnt actually hooked up to anything other than a switch, it is electric engagment of 4WD just like the rest,

I did acctualy look very hard at the VRX Pajero, however after driving one, I went and drove the VX Prado, it was chalk and cheese, engine and road noise in the Mitsi was the thing I like least, good power, trans was a bit strange in its hunt for gears, but the prado box will take some getting used to as the "manual" selector on the auto is a complete reverse to the falcon we have been driving.

The new 150 is smooth, quite and a nice place to spend time, the price I got was under what I was expecting and a good trade too, so I went the VX, if a Mitsi sales guy had called me back, maybe I would have went further down the road with them, but after driving the 150, for me there was no choice to make other than colour. The dealer I am buying from also offers a 6 year / 200,000km warranty (full factory) as long as the car is serviced by them, whcih it will be at $210. inc GST every 10,000km or 6 months, which is cheap.

The Patrol lost me, yes I went and looked, when I saw the center middle seat still had lap belt only, I have a 5 year old, who I care more about than to seat him in a car with a lap only belt, the general cab llayout is very tired and a new one coming in 2011 means resale in 5 years will be poor. thats why no nissan will be in my shed for a while, I had a Patrol for 250000km and liked it alot, but they have been left behind for the last few years.

The above is only my opinion and not meant to offend, but is what I based my desicion to buy a Toyota instead of a mitsi or Nissan.

                Re: pricing for the 150

Fair analysis of new offerings, Eugene. Well thought out and written.

A friend of mine bought a brand spanking Patrol this Christmas - he reckons that the solid live axles front and rear is a big motivator for him, as there's nothing else in the price point that gives him this size of vehicle and so for him, the solid axles were a selling point.

Another friend of mine bought a 3 door, even though I couldn't understand why anyone would want to do that, but it will suit him to a tee. So the point that you and I and everyone is making is that everybody has different needs. And I'm really glad that the market has a number of good choices available! It's all good!

If I had to pick a ute, I'd pick the Triton simply because it has a really solid rear diff and the front suspension is coils, not torsion bar, and there's loads of room to spare in the wheel arches - great for fitting bigger tyres!

However I needed passenger space more than anything else. Right now it seems that Toyota have got a great product on their hands with the Prado. Decent diesel donk, good fuel capacity, well known brand, KDSS, etc. Shame that the price has to be such a big jump from the 120 series because it makes it harder for existing owners to justify a new vehicle purchase, but I suppose the higher retained value on the 120 series would make the gap smaller than for a new customer without an existing vehicle to trade in.

                  Re: pricing for the 150

$71,000 drive away no more to pay for GXL, incl dealer delivery, stamp duty, metallic paint and rego.

My January 09 GXL was $65,000 including all the above including tint and reece hitch.

So $6,000 for 7 airbags, no towbar, no tint but essentially the same vehicle - I DON"T THINK SO.

$71000 seems a bit high. I was quoted $69226 for a GXL auto diesel incl metallic paint, rego etc and tinting with no discounting.

The 150 also has reverse camera, reverse sensors, multi zone climate control, audio aux input, bluetooth and some extra control systems as well as the airbags so the extra cost is not as bad as it seems at first.

I am curious to know how many people are actually going to punt their $98,000 Kakadu up Mt Oh My God in the Vic High Country, or bury it in saltly sand on Stockton or Fraser?
I for one, cringe everytime my $50K 120 grinds it's belly over a rock ledge. ops: ops:

Each to their own, I for one have spent a lot of time hardcore four wheel driving in Jeeps, and looked forward to milder terrain / long range touring across the country. Personally, spending $100k on a vehicle renowned for it's reliability and reputation is a great investment, as I have a growing family where our holidays will be limited in the years to come to touring SE Qld and Australia. And that's an awesome thing. The Kakadu happened to fit the bill, all the features I want/need in one vehicle, not having to worry about many mods/additions for years to come. Yeah I know I could have spent nearly half that on a lower spec, then mod it later on with the gadgets, suspension and bull bars plus other accessories - but the convenience in having almost everything in one vehicle, under warranty, is a lot of piece of mind for me. I spent a lot of time, looking at other vehicles - similar features/specs, but couldn't look away from the Prado as the reliability/reputation kept winning it over for me.

A bit more and yeah could have gone a LC 200 series, a Disco 4, heck if I wanted simply a people mover with the entertainment and a power punching Diesel I could have bought an Audi Q7 - but again the Prado is simply the perfect balance of all these things for me. No matter what make vehicle, there's always varying opinions, because we all have different needs!

I think you have misunderstood me. I was having ago at anyone purchasing a $100K Kakadu nor was I questioning what it was going to be used for. Heck if I had money to burn I would buy a $100K Kakadu for my wife drive the kids to school in without ant issue as they are esential a brilliant automobile.
In turn I was not questioning anyones opinion. An opiniion means nothing to no-one except those who are making them. I was meerly possing a question as to who would be trashing around the bush in a $100K Kakadu when you could spend $60K on a GX mod it out with another $15K and have awesome touring/offroad vehicle.
                            Nothing personal mate!

My Kakadu arrives in March. I intend making it do whatever it can do.
I guess whether you spend $50k or $100k you still have a new car which you don't want to scratch on purpose, but in the end its still just a car. In this case its a car that can go all sorts of cool places and I want to go there. (In comfort)
I currently have a Grande that I bought new in 2006. Haven't managed to scratch it badly yet, but certainly took it off road more than a few times a year.
