  • Taiwanese Tyredog TPMS on ebay

Has anyone tried the Taiwanese tyredog TPMS sold on ebay?

Recently, someone I know drove 3-4km on a flat tyre and didn't realise it. The person wasn't really knowledgeable about rims and was sold a full set of aftermarket rims instead as it was cheaper than finding another genuine Toyota alloy rim to match. This was because the rim was damaged. The tyre shop then took the 4 Toyota alloys from this person but didn't bother to use the spare tyre in the boot which was a genuine alloy rim. I am also thinking of getting a set for the missus' car but in her case, I have 4 steel rims to match the ones already on the car so I'm not too worried about a rim being destroyed.

I recently had a blow out on my camper at about 100km/h which did a lot of damage, partly because it took me a few seconds to figure out what was going on. The trailer didn't sway or show any signs of problems.

So I'm interested in what people have to say as I'll definitely be fitting a set.

Taiwan has been manufacturing the stuff we buy successfully & with good quality control for decades, I think I might look into these a bit more and get a set. Good find AMTS.

Derek11 what sort of timeframe are the valve cap batteries lasting in yours?? It may sound like a stupid question, but if they need to be changed like every month that would end up giving me the sh@ts.

        Cheers

These were on my list except I wanted 6 sensors. The tyredogs with trailer sensors need power to a relay which is no problem on a camper or van but I don't have power and wasn't planning to run power at this stage. I bought the 6 sensor unit from ABR, although Autobarn and some custom sound places sell the same unit for a bit cheaper if they happen to have stock, and it is working well. It cycles through one tyre at a time unless there is a fault unlike the Tyredog which shows all the tyres. Not really an issue because if there is a problem that is highlighted with alarms and flashing lights.

James, I currently have a unit which I got off a PP member nearly 2 years ago. It looks exactly like the Tyredogs I linked to on ebay which was why I would be happy with purchasing another set if they are the same ones. I am unsure of the battery condition from 2 years ago and I have not changed them and they are turned on everyday.

As Steve said, the alarm will come on when you unscrew the sensors and when I drop down to 15psi on the sand. I can't remember now but I think it is pretty to change the low and high setting for the alarm.

Steve, can you unit's alarm preset be changed?

I've just read the manual for the Tyredogs and it says this:
Holding the mute button for 6 seconds will enable the settings menu. The settings menu has five sub-levels which are shown below.
            Pressure units
            Temperature units
            Low pressure setting
            High pressure setting
            High temperature setting

Thanks Andrew that's exactly what I wanted to know, I assumed they would last a while but just wanted to check, 2 years is bloody good though.
Are they fairly easy to change the settings on though? I mean to change from a road psi steup to say set up for beach psi would only take a couple of minutes while you were letting your tyres down wouldn't it???

Have to say I do the same. The old Tyredog system was tedious to change settings. The new system is much more intuitive and easier but I don't bother switching the system on.

From the manual, it is a matter of pressing the Mute button for 6 seconds, then press the Mute button 2x to get to the Low pressure setting and then lower it. Maybe takes 15 seconds to set.

So my take is the Main unit controls everything, so when you deflate your tyres and put the valve caps back on the alarm goes off until i cancel the alarm and lower the minimum pressure on the main unit. Which like i said does become a PIA at times.

My only question is about the additional transmitter for the camper, I can't see that in any of the kits. How does this work?

You will need a 6 sensor kit http://www.tyredog.com.au/store/6-wheel-wtpms/

I have the 4 sensor kit bought off eBay and have had for over 2 years and while changing pressures is a pain, it is not like you are doing it everyday. The only problem I have found is driving along the display shuts down. I have replaced all the batteries and it still persists.
