  • Emirates Desert Safari

On recent trip to Abu Dhabi we booked a desert safari trip. The cars were a 150 series with no lift and grandtreks and a 200 with sand tyres at 12 psi both with roll cages and what felt like auto lockers.

These guys drove like crazy at speed turning sharp 180 degrees just before the top of each dune, down then up the next. Was like being in a tugboat in a storm. I was even starting to get seasick! I’ll never look at Stockton the same again.

Eventually the 150 rolled a tyre off the rim trying to keep up with us in the sand tyred 200. They had no recovery gear to speak of and after using the bottle jack just dug a hole under the stuffed wheel to change it.

After dinner in Bedouin camp (full of Aussies) they took us back in different vehicles as the 200 got a puncture. I’d recommend it if you're over that way.

    Cheers
    Jim

Just wondering if anyone here have used sand tyres. They have five deep grooves running around the tyre but no block pattern. The Prado with the grandtreks just couldn't keep up with the cruiser. Those tyres must make a big difference.

My wife and I went on the desert safari in Dubai . They were using 200 Cruisers , 20 of them I think , with roll cages and the 3rd row seats . I was in one of the 3rd row seats and came very close to throwing up , that's something that I haven't done since I was a kid .
Yes the drivers really do go hard , while we were waiting we saw and heard lots of them on the rev limiter . They had a tyre pumping station where maybe 8 cars could pump their tyres at the same time .
It was good fun but never again in the 3rd row seats !
        Cheers

Yes I saw the 200s in Dubai as well but had enough in Abu Dhabi so didn't bother. But it was an experience.

          Cheers.
