I also live in Toowoomba. I have to say that I havent really found much in the way of challenging tracks around here. I'm sure there are a few, but maybe on private properties?
I'm sure there are Mark, but i wouldn't know  , I don't go looking for stuff that is "too extreme". We just like to be able to get to the places we want to get to. May not interest serious 4WDers, but suit us just fine!

I notice you know the names of the roads . June and I've been adventure driving around Toowoomba since we first met back in the 70's ... and have never taken much notice of road names. We just jump in the car, "never been on that road, let's try it", or "how about we try the back tracks round Murphy's Creek?" The downside of this approach is that we tend to forget where we have been and when ... the upside, we enjoy spontaneity. But i reckon you might have found places we have yet to discover; its funny how blind you can be in your own back yard.

Mark, you mention lantana and narrow tracks; that's the bane of our life too. Its the one downside we have found with the prado; being reticent to get it scratched and dented.

As for Hell Hole Road, i did not know that it has been sealed. From recollection, we have down it (from the Preston road end) in a 2wd, but i don't recall ever attempting to come back up - i think we continued on and came out somewhere on Upper Fagstone Ck Rd. Oh, for a better memory :?

There are a couple of tracks close to us, for example along the new power lines where the photo above was taken, that we enjoy. A number of interesting tracks in behind Ravensbourne.

We've also trekked a bit around Warwick, through Killarney and via a heap of back roads to the coast. Not sure, but i don't think we've done the Top Swanfels road ... starting to see the error in not keeping diaries ops:

    Cheers

Hah, since the last post (a while back) I've stumbled across a few tracks following powerlines which I will occasionally sneak off on a break from work and have a bit of fun. Found an old track that looks like its used more by cattle than anything else and followed it down a hill. Nothing too challenging, but still, better than bitumen..but lots of lantanna and i've got some custom pinstriping on my car as a result..hehehe. There is another that looks like its got a very steep section, but I'll wait till I've got someone with me for that one. Wont be trying that one alone, just in case.

Bear, you guys have some great 4wd parks just south of warwick, can't think of their names off the top of my head, or you have the rathdowney, boonah area or a run through the condamine gorge is always easy but interesting.

          G'day Blacksheep,
Yep, those powerline tracks are great. Assuming you mean the ones that run off Upper Flagstone Ck Rd. Our son was visiting from Sydney in early July and I gave him the wheel and it was wet. We slipped and slid and had a great old time. Our "reserved" software engineer hooted and hollered - brought back memories of his youth. And so close to town! But yeah, that lantana is a real pest on some of the tracks. And i sooooo don't like digging off the mud   .

June and I found ourselves on track out the back of Gatton a couple of weeks ago - had all sorts of warning signs on it. Tested our fortitude but the prado made easy work of it. Didn't have the camera and we are too cowardly to try it again ... not for awhile at least.

Thanks Hutch, we have gone adventuring all around the rathdowney and condamine gorge areas. Some of the back tracks are particularly interesting. Got some good photos all through that area too. So much more there to explore yet. 4WD parks don't interest us much, maybe we are sooks or just prefer to come across the challenging stuff by fortuitiousness.
