  • 4wd destination without camping.

Hey guys I havnt realy posted anything on here before but here goes... so my issue is my wife does not like camping at ALL so we were wondering if there are any 4wd trails that we can do that has maybe like cabin accommodation or a lodge or something like that. I personally love camping but this is more so for my wife and small kids.. any suggestions would be great. I'm from nsw so anything for around here would be even better thanks heaps

Take a gander at this book. It mentions campsites but shouldn't be too hard to find accommodation near the trails with a bit of Googling

Use that boilling billy book and do the Caves to Caves trek.
Can stay at Jenolan Caves 1 night,
Can stay at Yerranderie 1 night,
Can find accomodation in mittagong for the last night.
You can do the trip in 2 days or take your time and do it in 3, many really nice hikes with watterfalls etc.

You can use Dargo as a base (there's cabin style accommodation here) and check out many parts of the Vic High Country.

              My wife is the same.
When on Fraser we stay at the cottages at Happy Valley.
When at Rainbow some 4 star units there.
When on Moreton we rent a house.

It's a heap more expensive but happy wife happy life.

But take the kids and infect them with the camping bug so that they want to go again and again

As your located in Campbelltown a relatively easy weekend trip is reply from jamieprado.
A quick overnight trip would be stay at one of the B&B at Taralga then you could go to Abercrombie NP for the day.
Yerranderie has some good accommodation and the old mines and relics in the area are worth a look at.
When coming out of Yerranderie you can turn on to Middle fire trail which will take you to wombeyan caves road.

You can do the Birdsville Track, stay at Windorah Qld (Coopers cabins were good), across to Birdsville and stay at the Motel, Mungerannie is old but clean and some tours do stay there but you could also just go right through to Marree in one long day and stay at the Hotel Motel or in cabins, after that you are back in civilisation (Obviously not over summer !!!!)

Another run would be to go to Mungo National Park, fairly easy but dirt roads make it an adventure for the family. You could stay at the Renovated shearers quarters with shared amenities or stay at the lodge. If you stay at the shearers I would suggest you inflate the numbers to fill one of the rooms so you get the room to yourself and only share the amenities. The toilets and showers are individual with locking doors so you don't use them at the same time as others like a CP but if full you may have to wait (there was only 2 of each)

Maybe the posh lodge would be better, some tours stay there so should be reasonable.

If you head over to Wyperfield or Big Desert there is a lodge in the the middle of Wyperfield!

When we went to the Simpson Last year we went up the Oodnadatta track, just having a bit of a joke on the way up and looking at all the outback pubs along the way we talked about doing the "cant be farked cooking tour" where we would just drive from one outback pub to the next for dinner every night. It was half a joke but you could just about do the same with outback accommodation.

                              Cheers Andrew
