I am coming up to the end of our initial 3 yr warranty and I am thinking of going the extended warranty.
Me too... just getting details from Toyota now. Will cost between $1,400 to $1,900 depending on 100,000km (extra 2 years) or 150,000km (extra 3 years) option.
Decisions, decisions.

Hey NTP, which warranty did you end up getting? Our GXL D4D is about to run out of warranty 20th September. We haven't made a warranty claim at all in 3 years. That's a good thing i know, not sure if the extended warranty is worth it??? The car will have about 85k on it at the end of three years. I'm also wondering if there is anything that i could make a claim on now that i wasn't aware of?
Cheers
Geoff
Geoff,
I started this thread and took out the extended warranty from new with the dealer suggested Swann Insurance.
I had an issue with injectors about 6 months out of warranty and Toyota came to the party 50% for parts only.Swann picked up the balance so i was not out of pocket .
I am a fan of extended warranty.
What I did before my factory warranty expired was to go to RACQ and have them do a check for warranty purposes.
Result one faulty shock replaced.
I purchased my 150 in January of 2010 - didn't get it until Easter though. The 150 came with the standard 3 year manufacturer's warranty + 2 year Dealer's warranty. The downside is that we MUST have the car serviced at the dealer we purchased it from for the entire period or else we void the Dealer's warranty.

Still deciding if it's worth it. Might follow lead and get NRMA (or similar) check before warranty expires though as suggested by Pedro. Got 'till October to make a decision.

ntp,
I had my 80 series Cruiser checked by Sydney Vehicle Check before the warranty ran out (some years ago now). A bloke named Chris Jones examined the cruiser, he specialized in 4WDs. I just rang his old mobile number, but someone else now uses that number. I was happy with the service, they now have a website.
I recently spoke to Toyota about an extended warranty also. The factory warranty was $1950 for 3 years/150,000kms or $1740 for 3 years/100,000 kms.
I doubt I will purchase it though, as I have had very little luck getting anything passed through warranty with Toyota. Not point paying for something I can't use.
I will however look into getting an RAC check before my current new car warranty expires. That is good advice thanks.
Scott.

So is $1,170.00 for the factory Toyota 3 year 150,000km extended warranty a good price.
It is a good price. I rang Toyota in Palmerston (NT) last week and they gave me a quote of $1950 (My warranty expires in Sep this year and I have done 55,000kms). Toyota also sent me information on the terms and conditions of their extended warranty. I would use the Km's first before the allocated time, hence why I contacted Swann insurance.
The quote I got from Swann insurance was $1200 and it gave me an additional 100,000 km's. The writing in their 'terms and conditions' is very similar to Toyota, some good, some bad. I am going to call them on Monday to ask about the injector and cracked dashboard issues associated with the 120 Series Prado.
Rang Swann today to get a quote as my three years is up in Sep $2400 for 3years / 100,000 extension. Still better than Toyota I get an extra 50,000kms. It is cheaper to get it through a dealer when you buy the the car because I got a quote for a mazda 3. It was $2000 (retail as stated by Swann) but through the dealer it was $1000.
Mine was $1800 for additional 3 years or 200,000km through Toyota (Swann). They are presently choking on their morning tea as the cost of repairing my engine climbs.

Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.

I was told I couldn't get more than 150,000km warranty
I think mine is factory though? not through swann so maybe that's the difference.
Mine was through the dealer back in 2009, I think they've dropped the mileage down to 150,000 now like yours. I'm still wondering how much of this rebuild they're going to cover.

My 2009 has also done 55k and the normal warranty ends in Sept also. CMI Toyota have their on extended warranty which I will need to ask re the injectors, don't thinks cracked dashes are included.
