  • Extended Warranty

Anyone got any comments on Extended Warranty :?:

Dealer said price is $1200 through Swann, and $1500 through Toyota for 3 years.

Pretty expensive, but then I suppose it could be cheap if something major went wrong.

I intend to hold the new baby, for at least 6 years(unless Lotto comes in).

We got the 3 year 100,000k warranty i think. Need to check that.

Talking warranty we have a kleenmaid washing machine. Had it for ages.
Started playing up on the weekend so rung up kleenmaid to find out what the go is. ( we knew the gearbox and tub have a 25 year warranty.
Found out the rest of it ran out of its 10 year warranty end of may.
Talk about bad timing. :x

As far as extra warranty if you can afford it now go for it.
As for who with? if they offer the same go the cheepest.

    Jeff.

      1. Make sure it is Toyota Extended Factory warranty and not anything else....
      2. The RRP for Toyota Extended Factory warranty (extra 3 years, and 150K) is $1600..

If you are going to buy one with the new car you should be able to squish it down to about 1K...

I am about to buy one as my 3 Years expires in about a month...
Had about $10K worth of stuff fixed under warranty....

The dealer told me that Swann wording was exactly (with the exception of cover)the same as Toyota and in fact Swann used to underwrite and administer the Toyota warranty, until late last year.

The exception to wording is that coverage is for 200,000 kms against Toyota 150,000 kms.
Swann Price through my dealer is $995 for the 3 years extended warrranty with 200,000 kms.
I have taken this out, bearing in mind that Swann have been around for yonks and have an excellent reputation. Deal was done over the phone.

The dealer said if any others wanted coverage like mine he would arrange the same deal.
Anyone interested send me a pm and I will pass on details.

          not worth it imho..

someone pretty major would have to go wrong to cost over 1600..

and if it was to go wrong, it would have by now.

Im not going to upgrade my warranty as i also plan to fit a lift kit and bigger tyres.... something that some toyota dealers dont like when it comes to warranty claims..

            Matt makes a good point.

Look at what the warranty excludes and under what circumstances the warranty is not applied. If you make modifications to the vehicle that MAY mean the warranty is voided. An example is conversion to gas can be used to void all warranty work on the engine, as gas conversions may be excluded from the extended warranty. (They were with my last Patrol).

Just a small point on extended Warranties.
You may find if you do your own maintenance (re servicing) you may not be covered.
A lot have stipulated in the agreement that the vehicle MUST go back to the dealer network for all service work.
I was in the process of taking out a extended warranty upon purchase of my Prado when that clause was pointed out.

Extra Care Warranty Insurance (the one you can buy after you bought a car)
specifies that it should be serviced at the Toyota or any authorized service center...

My Prado came with an extended warranty thrown in to 175,000k's (I think). It was just something the dealer does as an extra for after sales service and the vehicle must continue to go back to the dealer for servicing for the warranty to be effected.

Had the same deal with my previous vehicle (Holden Rodeo) and because I was away in Queensland and had to get the vehicle serviced at a different dealership while still under GMH warranty, the extra warranty was null and void so they get you both ways.

Vehicle was a piece of crap anyway so it didn't matter and I got rid of it before the 100K was up.

As they say caveat emptor (buyer beware)

That's a different one again... I got it as freebie as well on the Prado.
The dealer pays "$160" for it so you service your car at the place all the time...

Lost it on the first service as I had to do it in Mildura...

                      Hi,

Got a new GXL a few days ago & it came with the "included" 6 year 175K extended warranty. As I travel a fair bit I especially sought comments on getting it serviced at other Toyota Dealers whilst traveling. The Dealer was very specific that would be acceptable provided authorisation was given by the selling dealer before the other dealer started the service.

I think I might go and try and influence the dealer to agree to continue warranty provided that I get prior authorisation for servicing at another dealer and see what they say.

                          BUMP!

Sorry to rehash an old thread, but this is the closest I could find to try and answer my question....

In relation to new vehicles, what happens with the New Car Warranty if suspension upgrades are fitted to the vehicle. Having been over most threads I know a few have immediately lifted their new rigs (Crammy comes to mind).

Just curious if anybody can tell me what it will do to the warranty. the below clip is all I could find on the Toyota website but it's not very specific or detailed in it's explanation...

                          Toyota Vehicle Warranty;
If you've invested in a new Toyota, then keep it 100% Genuine with Toyota Genuine Accessories. Damage caused to your Toyota due to a fitment of non-genuine accessories is not covered by the Toyota new car warranty.

From what I make of this, if I upgrade my suspension then all suspension related failures come out of my pocket.

What I'm not sure of is if that will void the entire warranty or just the suspension related part. And given that, if something that is damaged as a result of a said suspension upgrade is also repaired from my back pocket.

IU just want to be 100% sure on where I stand so that I don't get screwed. Speaking to Toyota employees has not cleared this up one bit.

                          Cheers in advance,
                          AJ

It will void the Toyota warranty on suspension related parts.
Having said that it is also depends on a dealer quite a bit...
I had ball bearing replaced under warranty without any issues re:

I am coming up to the end of our initial 3 yr warranty and I am thinking of going the extended warranty. I have had two things that warranty has fixed so far.
1st was a seal ontop of the gear box, (i live in WA and got it looked at in adelaide but finally fixed in St Marys toyota near Penrith NSW whilst on holidays)
2nd was my rear door crack last month.

I have only used toyota for the first free service and authorised service centres since then. Also have nearly all the accessories under the sun. and toyota did not care about where it was serviced with those warranty repairs.

Without going to toyota to ask, what would be covered, or is it easier to say what is not covered by the extended????

                              Jeff.
