  • Hey Guys

Im after some new wheels and tyres for my 150 gx, was wondering is it ok to increase the rim size to an 18 as the vx+ models has 18's or will my speedo be out, i was going to put 18x9.0 with a set of 265/65/18 on, or will i have too many dramas?

    thanks for any help

    Liam

    • Now it looks like a Pradolux.

Wheel and tyre is approx 5 kg heavier than the BFG all terrain on standard prado mags. Not sure if the weight is in the tyre or mag.

The offset is the same as the standard Prado mag as well so no extra load on bearings or steering components.

          • can some help me. I have a 2004 Prado 120 Grande with the rims and about to purchase some new rims and tyres. The new rims and tyres are from a 2014 Prado 150 Kakadu. Will the new tyres and rims fit the Prado 120 Grande. I get confused with the offset discussions. Thanks David

                • Andrew if you want to include the data... Holden R series Rodeo up to RC Colorado. 16 x7 with offset P38. Centre bore 99.5 and like the Prado (centre bore 106) wheels are hubcentric. RG Colorado is P30 not sure on the centre bore.

                  • Hi guys, a very informative thread thanks.... but my head hurts from all the info

I have a 120 pilbera with the steel wheels (17x6?) with 265/65 AT's but am wanting to get another set of wheels with MT's for when we head bush. My question is what size offset (sunrasia) 17" rim would I need and whats the largest size tyre I can fit (not worried about legalities but needs

                    The 120 has a 2" suspension lift

                    Thanks in advance

The Pilbaras have the normal 17x7.5" steelies with ET30 offset.
You can safely go to 265/70R17 without modifying anything. Beyond that, it will start to rub.

                      • Ok thanks, what would have to be done to fit a 285/75R16? To my understanding the 16" rim can fit if the correct offset? And I remember reading something about needing to die grind off lumps on the fron calipers?

Or am I trying to do the impossible?

                        • A 16" off a 90 will come very close
                          http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post140828
The 90 series have an offset of ET15 and is 16x7". Not sure but a 285mm wide tyre might not fit onto a 7" wide rim.

I would stick with the Toyota 17"x7.5" steelies. They are available cheap from Toyota dealers.

                          • Hi all, this is my first post. Before I start, I just wanted to say thanks to all of you on PP; been surfing the pages here for a while and really appreciate the guidance and inspiration from members Prados. The first post is a fine example of this.

I have a 2014 GXL with a 2" OME lift and I'd like to get aftermarket 18" wheels (i know maintaining 17" is more sensible). The rims I am looking at are 18x9" ET 0. I intend on running 33" tyres, somewhere around 275/70s or 285/70s.

Given these rim's standard width and offset is 17x7.5 ET25, I have calculated that the outside face protrusion will be 6.5cm. .
Whilst my intention is to run a more aggressive offset; is this too much? What issues should I consider with this setup?

Thanks in advance. I look forward to your feedback.

                            • Im not to sure about the 150 prado but I know with my 120 to get a 285/70 17 we had to go a 0 offset. But even then I still had issues with the front tyres hitting the body mount when hitting bumps with the wheels turned

                                275/70R18 is 33.2"
                                285/70R18 is 33.7"

Are you more interested in offroad performance or looks? Because wider tyres don't give you an advantage offroad and larger tyres will mean that you will take a hit in fuel economy.
