  • Did I work it out write ??

Just did a quick consumption test running around town, to and from work 3 times at 18k round trip, the other 13.2k running to local shops, so did 67.2k all up, no aircon running, only mod is an alloy bullbar (toyota soverign bar) grantreck tyres at 40psi and both tanks full to the top,it used 8L of fuel, The way I worked it out was 8 (litres) divided it by 67.2 (klms) which equals the grand sum of 0.1190476, so round up to 12L per 100k   Would this be write ?? Maybe I need to do a few 100k round town and it will change but even if it was 14L per 100 it would still be way better then I was expecting. Going away for a week, freeway driving and some running around local townships so will get a cunsumption test when I get back home and refill if chockers again. This is running standard unleaded not E10 crap or the higher octane stuff.....Regards Steve

How did you work out it was 8L though? If it was filling up, I wouldn't go by those figures based purely on the small sample of 8L.
Doing a few hundred km will give you a better idea

The maths is right but not enough distance covered for a more accurate result.

Cause thats all I could fit back into the tank again, I clicked it a few times and could see it bubble up at the inlet where nozzle goes in, same way I always fill my cars up, I dont just stop at first click ...............

That sounds a bit too good.... I'm not jealous I promise

Maybe the petrol was a bit foamy when you filled up so you weren't able to fill it completely?

I remember when I filled up after 40K's of stop start peak hour traffic I got 21 L/100Km

Re: Did I work it out write ??

Note that on the 120, you fill up the rear tank but fuel is drawn from the front tank to the engine. You may have refilled too quickly before the fuel from the rear tank could pump to the front tank. I noticed that my gauge does funny things once the 90L light comes on. The needle goes up and down and I attribute this to the fuel not being completely pumped from the rear to the front.

Re: Did I work it out write ??

21   I would be trading it on a 100 series petrol if I was sucking 21 in a 3.4, wholey shit.....Will go away for the week, refill when I get back home, this will give me Litre per 100 pretty much freeway driving (some running into towns) and then once I have refilled when I get home I will leave it for a few 100k then refill and do another check and just drive it to and from work and local shops again. Not sure if maybe the tank set up works differently to the old 90 series not sure .. As with the old 90 I could fill each tank seperately and knew they were full as one would come up and over flow back down into the filler neck of the other tank. With the 120 not sure how it fills once I stick that nozzle down the hole...lol.Regards Steve

Re: Did I work it out write ??

Yeah 21L/100Km is getting up into the 4.8L Patrol territory. But that was almost purely stop start top speed of 30km/h traffic on the M2.

I typically average 15-16L/100Km and have got as low as 13L/100Km...... once.

Re: Did I work it out write ??

That could totally be the reason.... I have no idea how the filling up and transfer and stuff works on the 120 compared to my older 90 series x2 that I had. Your probably spot on. So insaying that would that mean possibly one of my tanks is not full at the moment ?? I also added a container (stp injector cleaner to the tank) 1m per 1 litre. There was a very good question on here the other day about adding stuff to the tank and how do you know which tank its going into, so based on what I read I presume it will mix through the 2 tanks itself ?? Thought I would whack one in as it will do a few klms over the next week...Regards Steve

That would explain it. Pain in the rear that M2 at the moment Declan eh, especially the bloody road works, a joke and be wary as the cops have been enforcing the lower speed limits even when no one working there.... Our friends have the 4.8 patrol, great car plenty of power but said running from Penrith (Glenmore Park) to St Clair to drop kis off, work (Penrith) and pick up again in the arvos then back home to Glenmore Park it averages 27L per 100,

Yeah Matt I dont think its write due to the fact the way the tanks work (I have no idea) so as said I think it would be better to do a test once its done a few 100k running around town, would be more accurate. I wouldnt mind paying more on fuel if my vehicle is loaded like yours is with all the xtras, wow took me 5 minutes to read through everything LOL. Regards Steve

It is also a good idea to cleam the MAF sensor to get better fuel economy.
Join fuelly and have your fuel economy appear in the signature to get a running average.

And another thing, if you run larger diameter tyres, you need to account for the % change in distance travelled. A larger tyre will cover a longer distance per revolution than a smaller tyre. However, the odometer doesn't know that you have larger tyres. This can make your fuel economy go up more than expected.

On a related issue, putting larger tyres will use more fuel as you need more energy to spin a bigger tyre around. But once you corrected the distance, the fuel economy won't be as bad as it looks.
