Not really, if we get enough funding every month, we can have an advertisement free forum. I know of many sites and forums that are run purely off sponsorships and donations. I'm not so sure why the forum needs to increase it's advertisement banners by 200% (perhaps Aaron was topping up out of his own pocket before?)
Being a long time user of the internet... I automatically (subconsciously) block out any and every advertisement I see on the net - it's become instinctive and habitual. It just so happens that the new ads on the posts cover half the images that are being posted that makes it hard to ignore!
For the record, I never click on ads. Nothing has ever enticed me to click on it and even if it did see something I liked, it'd be the last place I'd go... If I want something, its:
1. Google for product research
2. Ebay to get a ballpark figure on competitive prices
3. Other sources (too many to mention) to check on where to buy it at the best price depending on what I'm after.
Anyway, I suppose a repositioning of the ads would be a good idea before donations/memberships are considered.William

I may be wrong but I beleive there is a thread asking if people would pay membership for the forum and the outstanding answer was no, so advertising pays for the forum. You mention various sites for research for purchases all of which contain advertising so am I missing the point? Doesn't the point of going to Google and ebay go to the ultimate advertising sites?

Absolutely mate, but like I said, I subconsciously block these ads when they appear on the screen. I use the sites mentioned for what they are, a tool for the purposes I've stated, and it does it very well. Likewise, I go to PradoPoint to use the forums, not read ads about wanting to buy a Mitsubishi Lancer (currently pictured on the last post). Get what I mean?Originally posted by Richoson View PostYou mention various sites for research for purchases all of which contain advertising so am I missing the point? In my experience, clicking on ads have never been productive (even in google ie. the ads on the sidebar). If anything, they can cause you to catch bugs such as malware or even trojan/virii.
Cheers

That sounds like a brilliant idea TP!Originally posted by Piggy View PostYes there was a thread. We closed it as it wasn't done by the admins. In the future there will be the offer to have paid membership for more access and no ads.William

That seems to be the most common approach with iPhone apps too. I.e. the free version of the app comes with ads and the paid version comes ad-free. Also, in the iOS realm most apps cost under $5, seemingly for life?29Feb12:12GXLTD Auto, ARB Deluxe Winch bar, WARN 9.5xp Winch, IPF 900XS, Tow, Safari snorkel, Front + Rear Recovery points, ARB OME NC Sports, ATZ-4Rib, Silver. You have to go into the options and change your time zone
1. On the top right click on "settings"
2. On the bottom left click "general settings"
3. Scroll down to "Date and time ..."
4. Change to your relevant time zone. It's +10GMT for where I am (melb)William
