  • G'day all

I've been one of those members lurking in the background since 2007 when I first tossed around the idea of upgrading from the trusted Surf to the, then new, D4-D Prado. After much agonising I decided to soldier on with the Surf for a few more years. A change of scenery and job, as well as another 100k on the Surf and a few years older and wiser, saw me hike it down to the local Toyota dealer and place an order for a brand spanker.

Well when it arrived I couldn't believe it, it was love at first drive. But the decision wasn't easy and it was only because of this site that I finally bit the bullet and decided on the upgrade. I couldn't be happier and as the buildup progresses will be sharing photos, stories and utilising this brilliant site to help me make decisions on choosing equipment.

At present it has an ARB winch bar fitted, cargo barrier and a 3" exhaust from Manta Pro in Perth. The list of goodies grows by the day and I look forward to sinking my teeth into it. So this is just a message to say G'day to all from a long time lurker and to say thanks for the valuable information on this site in helping me make the decision to upgrade.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Welcome to the club. I would love to hear about your experiences with the exhaust. I am thinking that that might be my next modification (when I have saved a couple of pennies). Can you tell us how big was the difference was with a bit of a before and after comparison?

They're obviously paying you way too much up there in Hedland if you can afford to put a Manta exhaust onto a brand new vehicle as part of your first mods.

Haha, it was a must have. After having a 3" on the surf and driving it before and after I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have it on the Prado from new. The system Manta Pro do is a twin muffler system with a high flow cat. I've asked them to remove the centre muffler from the system, ran a similar system on the Surf and it wasn't overly intrusive in the cabin at any engine speed but it does have a nice note. I jumped straight out of the Surf and into the Prado with the exhaust already fitted so I guess I'd have to drive a Prado with a factory system on it to weigh up the differences. The exhaust note however is just beautiful with the amplified turbo whine that I love so much. Everytime I put the foot down it reminds me that even modern cars can still sound like cars should.

Every time I drive to Perth I pass their factory in Cunderdin and think "one day."

How is Perth? In all the times I've been through there I've never seen the place. Moved up to Port from Roxby in S.A with work and the only view I've seenof Perth is from the plane window. I'll get down there one day though and go shopping for 4wd parts when I'm there, it sure beats paying twice the price up here for stuff.
