I've let my subscription to 4WD Action expire as well. Seems every issue these days is yesterdays news reheated.
The product comparo's are all mostly stuff that has been tested before and the bias is definately steered towards ARB products.
Once you flip through the pages and pages of ads, there's very little else left to read.
I did enjoy the DVD's though, even if they were mostly one long commercial for TJM, AMMS and GYC Campers.
Pity that "Honest Don"from TJM didn't get lost in a bog somewhere!

just funily enough , i don't reckon ol onest don would get half as bogged or flogged, in any one of their dvds if toothy didn't tell him to drive through that particular bog hole , in that particular spot . i USED to think old don was a complete goose . the more i see .........................the more i see . and the less i think of the others03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . The Roo,Originally posted by Talktheroo View PostPaul, I will do the photography. I have the knowledge and the camera gear, Canon EOS1 DS, etc, etc... We can also incorporate Australian wildlife into the travelling articles as I have a 300,000+ stock library.
Matt, you would of signed a release form/document and most publishers over shoot on articles and then use some of them in later issues/articles. Something to do with making it more cost affective. The bulls**t bit, well, that makes their magazines fiction novels, doesn't it?
The Roo.
What I was thinking about was maybe setting up a person in each state who would be able to liase with members of that state to provide stories and photos of build ups and Pradopoint trips as well as members specific trips. The forum link for the story could also ve provided for the full details and comments. If suitable we could offer businesses an opportunity to showcase their Prado products then possibly receive feedback about these products from members who have or use the product. The products or stories could be requested by members and members could vote on stories they want.
This could be produced as a PDF document for download. Maybe the first issue could be kicked off at this years GTG. As your in Brisbane any local stories could be photographed by you. I guess it comes down to people's available time as we would be looking at members volunteering their time.
Great to hear of some interest.

And with EMG as many of the forums are commenting on this particular story they do seem to repeat a lot of content. I have also bought every issue of Camper Trailer Touring but have been going through some of the stories in the magazines. Most of the DIY articles never really tell you exactly what of how to do things but just generally explains you can do something with no specifics. That is how I have found all their magazines becoming like this.Black 2009 150 Series D4D GXL Prado, TG150 Transfer Case & Actuator Guard, TJM T13 bar, TJM 9.5lb Winch, Airtec Snorkel, TJM steel sidesteps and sidebars, TJM Underbody Protection, TJM XGS Gold Suspension, Tinted, ARB Fridge Freezer, Couplertec System, Foxwing Awning, 80AH Dual battery, 8" indash GPS, Wet Seat seatcovers, GME TX3540, TX3110 & TX680, Maxtrax, Kaymar Dual Wheel Carrier, Breathers, Federal MT's.

I guess I didn't think my initial comment would grow into a large thread, with other threads spreading across two more 4wd forums
I want to make some comments with regards to the replies I have read on all three forums.
1. I love watching Roothy and Graham on the DVD's that come with the magazine. Even though they are rife with 'product placements' etc, I like to spend a few hours visiting places with the DVD crew, that I most likely will never see myself. I like to be able to show the beauty and wonder of these remote areas to my children and its great to know that the guys are showing everyone these areas before the government take the basic rights of all people in Australia to visit them.
2. Recently on 4wd action forum, the editor of 4wd action replied to comments posted about the situation that has occurred on the new edition of Overlander, and I reckon that's a good effort by such a young fella. Its alot easier to deny and blame others, than have the balls to stand up and publicly say what you did was not the right way to approach something. Well done Shaun
.
3. I agree with the sentiments expressed by members of all three forums with regards to the recycling of stories and photos etc. Someone mentioned that I would have signed a wavier on the first photo shoot, allowing EMG to reuse the photos etc. To my knowledge and according to my memory; I never signed a thing for the photo shoot last November 2010. I may be wrong, but if my memory serves me correctly, I signed nothing. It was just a shame to read the fantasy story that accompanied some great photos in the recent Overlander.
4. I have been collecting 4WD custom guide for the last six months and generally found this publication to be reasonably fresh with regards to content and advertising levels. In a month or two, I am changing the backlog of issues I have remaining in my subscription from 4WD Action, over to the 4WD Custom Guide. There is less guff and more hands on in the custom guide and I reckon its more my cup of tea.
I wish 'Overlander' all the best in the future, in the past its been a regular read in my household and I hope the soul of such a great magazine will not be corrupted and it will live on.

The best of this bodgy stuff was the 4wd action DIY mag that came free with something - happy meal maybe.Originally posted by Brains View PostMost of the DIY articles never really tell you exactly what of how to do things but just generally explains you can do something with no specifics. Anyway, they went on about how fast you can fit electrical accessories with "scotch locks" to tap into the wiring forgetting to mention they are one of the most common electrical problems with accessories and then they spray painted a suzuki with black paint and went on to say that "you could buff it to make it shine but I prefer the 'dull cant spray paint to save myself' matt black look".
Nothing about doing things properly just how to start and finish in the shortest possible time to get pack to the grog......2009 120 V6 Auto. 265/70/17 Goodyear Silent Armours. Bilsteins and Kings Springs.

Wrong assumption Roo (whoever you are ? I use my real name).
I stated truthful facts in every point I made. I don't back down on things I believe in, ask real people (not just forum usernames) that actually know me.
I am pissed at them for what they did, but at least they had the balls to admit it and have committed to fix there mistakes in future editions.[U]Matt

I have no issues, I made comments that are facts. You responded with your opinion, which you are entitled to voice on a open forum.

Hi Matt, thats a bit rough on roo given your history on this forum. You deleted nearly 2500 posts and the reason you gave, both on the forum and to me in PM's, was that someone was very upset and making threats against you, and you were worried they could identify you from what you had posted! Of course your real (full) name was published in the original 4WD Action article, so I guess no point in trying to hide your identity.Originally posted by Matt - mr4x4.com.au View PostWrong assumption Roo (whoever you are ? Maybe not using your real name here is a good idea!
