Recycling and modifying the original article was not a good thing to do but "standing up" and admitting the error certainly earns kudos from my perspective.
After all, we all make mistakes, its how we respond to our mistakes that defines us.

Personally I think Shauns response was pathetic. He admitted to redesigning a couple of articles due to time constraints and thats it. No acknowledgement that the stories were as much made up as redesigned, and the excuse was that they had time constraints after taking over the mag. Perhaps they should have sorted out how they were going to run the Mag before taking it over.
My opinion of Shaun and EMG has only been lowered by the affair and his response. I also notice that the thread on the 4WDaction forum has been locked, obviously they aren't interested in listening to anyones opinion unless it is positive feedback. Glad I am not a member of that forum.
Cheers Andrew

Now on the political front I would like to quote a very famous and wise Australian "Someone should blow up labour!" (Ted Bullpitt)
Just imagine, they want to impose a $23 charge on my farts.... pathetic! I guess I can claim a carbon offest if I grow special "tomatoe" bushes

Geez AJ - you certainly have taken the sword to Shaun! Anyone would think he had told you your welding was crap (which would be a complete lie). Hahahaha.
Whilst I agree with you that the apology was errr..., evasive, if was nevertheless an apology - does he not get any marks for that?
Cheers,

To the member with the former name of Prince. (aka Madkore)
From the outset I want to apologise for wasting your time, I was going to write something intelligent and witty and include counter assertions relating to AJ's welding abilities. However, I cannot think of anything itellegent or witty, nor can I makle any comment on your comment about AJ's welding of the 2 Boeing 747's to which you refer, one of which was alledgedly or actually involved in the hijacking last Tuesday and then other Boeing 747 that is a learjet wanting to be a 747 (bit like a GXL wanting to be a Kakadu)
It seems I have wasted your time, and included irrelevant and non factual information to mislead, however I see no further reason to apologise because I admit I didn't tell the whole truth. God if I had time I would prepare this response in detail, edit out the fairytail stuff and treat you with the respect you deserve. But hey, I don't have the time and I alrerady have your money
I guess what I am hilighting is the response was weak and not worth the read just like the article. Matty (Mr 4x4), you and others may choose to accept it, but as someone that paid for the magazine and therefore the article, I do not. A true apology is to all concerned. If they print the facts and apologise to their whole reading public in the next overlander mag then, and only then, is the apology of any value. The limited response to those that are aware is not an open admission, defence or show of remorse or sorrow. It must be directed to ALL those affected and that means all those that bought the magazine.
Just my 2 cents.
PS I am sorry really if I offend or waste any member's time.

This is all that Shaun wrote that related to the article in question.
To get the first 2 issues out on time was very challenging as we didn’t have access at that time to all the material we needed.
So out of necessity we did redesign a couple of stories for the first 2 issues as has been discussed. This will not be happening again in future issues.
I guess my comments were really a reply to your comments Madkore as well as leethal, both of you giving credit to Shaun for standing up and admitting their mistake. IMO all he gave was a politicians answer, a weak excuse, he never accepted that the story was fabricated (only redesigned) and then a promise that it will all be different in the future!
Now if he had of said, yes we made a mistake, we should not have run the story without having the facts correct, we failed to be organised enough to produce the quality of magazine our readers expect and then promised to fix things I might give him credit. Locking the thread on the 4WDaction forum is pretty weak as well. As it is, no kudos from me, if that makes me a harsh marker then so be it.
Mind you I still rate him well above Julia and Swanny
Cheers Andrew

I'd have to agree with Andrew. Shaun's response was not an apology. It was an excuse. There was no admission of any mistake or wrong doing. What I don't understand is what happened to all the journalists that worked for Overlander? Surely, they could have put a 'proper' magazine together just like they've done so every month before they were bought out.
it was a cop out and exactly what you would expect them to say. very pc

as my comments were based on the op's comments that the perpetrator had in effect admitted the error of his ways ... I think
so some kudos retracted, some left and hopefully at sometime in the near future I will be able to peruse, at leisure, a real mag, on real paper, with new articles in that special place of literary comfort ... the crapper

Yeah, it is a politicians response, but what do you honestly expect? At the end of the day they want to sell mags, and I can't see how telling people they have screwed up will sell them more mags. I think by saying he won't do it in the future is at least a partial admission of screwing up.
