    • Hello all, been lurking a while while gathering info., great site by the way, you're a friendly bunch. Moving from a modded GU Patrol to a new (well MY13 plated) Graphite GX 5 seater with ARB bullbar. The GX appealed to me because I didn't need 7 seats and things like wheels, sliders and DVD/GPS unit will be added later on. The Mods will start today with a dual battery install and driving lights.

      • Welcome MarcMarc and Pugaree (ex grunt?). Once you start with the mods and reading about the rigs that other members have then the journey will never end - well, as long as the bank balance and SWMBO supports it all.

Welcome to the site. That's a pretty good list of mods you've done in a short time. It's been said many times before, but stick around here long enough and that list of mods will just keep getting bigger while the bank balance takes a dive.

              • Hi all, i've recently bought a Prado as a family compatible upgrade from a Suzuki Sierra.

                Model: 120 GX D4D manual
                Year: 2008
                Colour: White
Accessories: Toyota bullbar and towbar also some sandgrabba matts and phillips H4 globes on the way.
Wishlist: Upgrade tires, scangauge ii, spotlights, roof rack system, snorkel, dual batteries, roof top tent, rear storage etc etc.

I have a good basic start point to work from now, not sure on brands etc of the upgrades i want to do yet but I'm sure this awesome forum will help me as it has already done with the choice of the sandgrabba matts and globes.

                Cheers everyone!

                  • Hello All,
Firstly I'd like to thank all of the people who post here. My recent purchase of a secondhand 150 GXL was made so much easier by the info I got by lurking here.

I'll tell how I ended up with a Prado.
I spent many years on a sheep station where we drove around in a couple of brutal fj land cruisers (one was stretched, but not in a limo way) and a little bounce box Suzuki. And motorbikes which explains my knee. When we left I vowed and declared that I would never buy a 4WD - or even a car with a towbar.
Then last year rellies who had moved to Broome for a year offered us the use of their Prado 150 manual and trailer to drive the GRR. The Prado survived, the trailer broke, and The Boss and I got the touring disease. We decided no trailers for us, everything in or on the vehicle, balance mobility with comfort.

So we bought our Prado. It's lifted, has dual batteries, an ARB bullbar, electric brakes, roof rack, UHF radio. But of course as we all know that is nowhere near enough stuff. Because we didn't own any 4WD or camping stuff before this obsession arose it will be fun for years to work out what works, what's best etc. All informed by the fellow obsessives on this site. So thanks.

                    • Addition to the family - 2012 Kakadu

                      Hi all,

                      Ive been hanging around for a while and finally pick up my 2012 Kakadu V6 this week. Graphite grey, with all the factory fruit and i will be adding a few bits and pieces over the coming months, so ill be appreciative of any input. The mods i'm adding are as follows;

                      - ARB deluxe bar
                      - Runva 11XP winch
                      - full set of under-car plates
                      - 2 inches lift - Can i get Bilsteins and who is the best in Brisbane to get lift from the airbags?
                      - Dual Batteries - Can i remove the 3rd row electric seats, as this is where i want to fit the aux battery?
                      - Front locker to compliment the rear factory unit
                      - 17" wheels to allow 265/70R17 tyres - Can these be legally fitted to the Kakadu?

                      cheers
                      Geoff

                          • Welcome to the Kaka club Geoff!

For bash plates I've used the Ironman ones, at only $470 installed for the set excluding the rear tank guard they are good value. Can't comment on the Bilstein option for your lift as I've just opted for Dobinsons springs over the factory shocks and a sensor tweak to lift the rear airbags. Not sure about putting 17" wheels on a Kaka but there are a few 18" options around now.

                              • Hey fido,

Thanks for the info. Do the Ironman plates require any mods to clear the KDSS? Also, who did the rear airbag sensor tweak and what rate springs did you use, as I'll have a bar, winch and dual batts soon. Maybe a good idea to just do springs first.

                                Cheers
