        • G'day Guys,
I've been lurking for while and thought its about time I introduced myself. My name is Jamie and I'm from western suburbs of Melbourne. I've owned, or should I say the wife has owned a Prado since late last year. We decided we would like to have a go at off-roading after some friends introduced us to the idea. After doing a fair amount of reading on PP, we made the commitment to buy a 120 Grande V6 which was bog stock standard and never been off road. Since then we haven't looked back, and soon I found myself fitting the car up with a good set of A/Ts, a UHF radio, recovery points and a warn winch. As with everyone else, I have a huge wish list of stuff I'd like to add, but for the moment I'm happy to play with it as it is.
I'd like to thank you guys for all the valuable info you take the time to post here. I've found PP to be a gold mine of information. Hopefully I can contribute to it myself in the future.
          Thanks

          Jamie.

            • Hello Prado fanatics just a short introduction to my Prado past. I have a 90 series 3.4 manual bought new August 96 one of the early ones. It has a TJM bar, OME suspension dual batteries cargo barrier and 286,000 ks on the clock. This vehicle has been ultra reliable with only a few minor items going wrong in this time. Replaced plug leads about 4 months ago for the first time, injectors have never been out, still running original clutch and alternator, timing belt twice and water pump done as a preventative maintenance last time timing belt was done. Had one drive boot replaced and leaking axle seal at different times both on drivers side. Back OME shocks replaced and fronts could be about ready to be done. I still have this Prado. Moving forward nearly 18 years I now have a 2014 GXL diesel auto. The vehicles have come a long way in this time in some respects and not others. I appreciate they have to have a reasonable amount of stuff on them to meet the ever changing safety standards as well as dictating the design to a certain degree to get the crash protection (5 stars on this no stars on the 90). There is a fair degree of redistribution of space in the 150 to the 90. Rear space has been pinched to get more passenger space, one reason I got a seven seater in the 150 as you can lock the 2nd row seats in different positions to pinch space for the back and I had a cargo barrier made up with different length brackets to suit where I want to put the barrier. Without running a tape over it looks like more length has gone into the bonnet area. Economy seems pretty good 8L/100 going by the computer at the moment about 2000 on the clock. This has been a fair bit of country running. Just about used to the auto and people tell me the autos are better for towing which is also why I bought a diesel. Got some things done and more planned for the 2014 model have to put that in the build up section. Thanks to all the input on the forum this helps all of us to get to know a bit more.

              • G'day all,

I've just joined up and posted a few threads, so thought I should post one here too.

                I don't own a Prado, I'm researching a 120 Prado 3L diesel to buy.

Ideally looking for a D4D with the six speed manual, probably a GXL. Purpose of the vehicle will be a good all rounder for daily use and camping as my wife and I will likely only have one vehicle for the moment (so she doesn't want to drive a dirty big modified Cruiser or Patrol!). Any aftermarket mods will be viewed as a bonus, a factory stock/optioned model will suit our current needs.

I've previously owned a 1996 80 Series Cruiser HZJ80R and back in the dark ages, a 1981 MQ Patrol SWB with the SD33 motor.

If anyone is selling one registered in NSW then feel free to contact me, I'll keep an eye on the classifieds section too.

                Cheers,

                • Howdy All

Well i am about to join "Team Prado" - Selling my BT50 and getting a FaceLift 150 GXL.
Heading down to ARB to get all the toys. Bar, winch, ARB LED Intensity lights, side rails, lift, snorkel, UHF, tow bar. I am then going to knock up a false floor to allow my fridge with one draw on the passenger side of the rear which will allow the drivers side to still be available if we need the 6th person in vehicle.

I am looking forward to the smoother ride. First real trip will be a week in the VIC high Country next year! Really looking forward to that!

I am amazed at the info on here.

                  Cheers

Sometimes certain posts make me smile. The thought that flash through my head was "yep, a few cheap imported alternatives out there, but nothing of this quality".

                              • Found this forum interested and useful for a few mods already so I thought I would introduce my self. I'm Jono and I live in Canberra. Bought this Prado 2nd hand last year (2013) from a gentleman who used it for towing his caravan around Oz. The truck had been well looked after, came with a set of polyairs in it and he even put 2 new tyres on it. The original owner upgraded to a 200 and said to me, "you know, if you don't modify it or take it off road it'll keep it's value". I just didn't have the heart to tell him what plans I had for it.
I do a fair bit of scuba diving so having a competent truck to get me into places and carry all the gear has been good. And so when the ocean conditions are crap, then it's time to go bush. Previous cars include Mazda 3 MPS and before that a Suzuki Grand Vitara.
