        Hello All,

Just picked up my new prado on monday and wanted to join this great site.

I live in Kalgoorlie but got a $8000 better price from Albany Toyota so went there.

Had some mods done at ARB before i picked it up.

Deluxe commercial bar, 9000pound winch, OME lift, snorkel, XXX HID lights, Kaymar dual wheel rack.

Getting window tint done on the 29th - darkest legal on front doors, black out on rear doors and back end.
Also waiting for the ROO system chip and 3" exhaust to arrive.

Tracklander rack, lights, ariels etc are in the shed and will go on in the next week or so when i get a chance.

Have been reading and getting ideas from the site while waiting for my prado to turn up and hope to add to the posts as i finish the vehicle off.

        Thanks
2010 GXL Prado, ARB bar and winch, driving lights, dual wheel rack, roof rack, UHF, sat phone, rear seats removed, custom rear floor and fridge slide, chip, 3inch exhaust, 3inch lift, 200kg rear springs, ome shocks, 285 maxxis Tyres, Dual batteries, Anderson plugs, power in back etc. snorkel, and more. Wish List - nomad transmission lockup, roof mount DVD, long range tank, endless air compressor to fit the 150.

          Hi All,

          Also forgot to mention,

I was looking for an original 2nd spare wheel for my rear rack and was serching the forum, Not sure now who it was on this site but someone mentioned that a wreckers in melbourne had a 150 they were wrecking. so to cut a story short I got the spare wheel sent to kalgoorlie for $900.00 including frieght.

Better than toyota here, they wanted $1400 plus frieght, and could not give me a delivery date.

Thanks again to the person that mentioned the wreckers.

Also just to add, the Hilux wreckers in Campbellfield Vic. were exteamly helpful and shipped the wheel the same day.

          Thanks.

                Greetings All from Saudi Arabia,

I ain't got my Prado yet but I reckon it's written in the stars...

I have previous as a Defender owner and so am new to the Prado world but having been in the Kingdom for a few months now, it is clear that LR is a big no no and that the Prado is the way to go.

So the specs below are a wish list based on my thoughts and experiences so far. I have looked at new ones and several second hand ones in the Car Bazaar of Jeddah (an amazing place, by the way). Not up for a new one right away so I'll be going back there, even though it's going to be a tough job finding a car i'll be happy with before the rented Corolla falls to bits.

I have lots of questions but will put those over in the Buying advice section. Uses will be: around town, long highway dashes and desert work plus some planned long trips to Europe via Turkey and west through North Africa if possible. A roof tent may be required.

Model: Probably the lower levels to keep the price down (all are luxurious compared with a Defender). V6+ (petrol really is cheaper than water)
                Year: 2003 - 2005
Colour: anything that don't make the gorge rise
                Accessories: Auxiliary tank
Wishlist: Dual Battery, Snorkel, Fridge - to start with - resist the temptation to make a list as long as my arm...

Any and all advice and warnings appreciated,

                Mark in Yanbu

Here in Australia we are lucky/blessed that the Prados are standard with the additional tank giving the 120 series 180 liters. How does Diesel compare pricewise to Unleaded Petrol?

Thanks for the welcome :-) Here's how the pricing goes in KSA:

                    Code:
                    Diesel A$00.067/l
                    91 A$00.12/l
                    95 A$00.15/l
                    Water A$00.21/l
Beer A$269.67 (return air ticket to Dubai, but then you may drink as much as you like)
Now, I'd heard that fuel was cheap here, but I was actually shocked at how cheap!

So, diesel is half the price of petrol, but since that's half of SFA, it's not a big worry :-)

Sure, it's cheaper but the 94 hp of the 5L-E is too big a compromise if you ask me.

                      Hello to all Pradopointers,
Like many others I have also been lurking in the background of this informative site gleaning plenty of information for over 3 years. The new lockout rules made me register – and I’m glad I was forced to login and become active.

As my username says, this is my first Prado. We purchased a white T/Diesel automatic GXL in February of this year and picked it up the week after Easter. It’s a great car – so it should be for a 60K vehicle. I never dreamed I’d pay that much for a car. Anyway, my wife loves driving it. Like everyone else I also had the engine vibration and am appalled at the inadequate rear mud flaps.

My previous 4WDs include a short wheel base FJ40 which I bought (against my parents better judgement) in my late teens. This was a serious beach runner and when I got it home and paid someone, a lot more mechanically minded than me to ‘fix’ a few things, they pointed out that they could poke their hands into the chassis rails where the rust had eaten it away. This thing was the ultimate bottomless money pit.

I kept it for two years and did a couple of trips to Double Island Point and Rainbow Beach and in 1994 I purchased a red mica dual cab 2.8 Hilux. I kept this for 16 years and it took me to the Simpson Desert, all the desert tracks, the Kimberley (Bungle Bungles, Gibb River Road etc, Cape York and a thousand places in between. A very sad day for me when I parted with the mighty ‘Lux after 16 years.

I’m not one for changing vehicles very often and I desperately wish to get 15+ years from the Prado too.

I’m looking forward in being able to contribute to the forums as well.

                      Regards,
                      Trevor.

If this is a result of the 'lock out' then hopefully others will follow suit to see that its much better to be a part of the forum than just a 'silent' observer.
