  • Welcome Ben! I've previously owned a Maverick too (it blew up) so don't feel too bad. Your Grande is the same year as our VX was, ours was the champagne over silver combo. Your spare wheel cover is off a 120 I think, the 95 series one was different and probably isn't made anymore.

    • Hiya Ben welcome, you will officially have no money now you have joined PP lol. There is soooo much you can spend your money on which your probably used to after already owning a 4wd... Cheers Steve

Yes spare wheel cover from a 120. And don't forget about the hidden cup holders.

              • Yep, found the cupholders - that was a nice little suprise. The kids are looking forward to the hot days with the rear air-con (which is why we bought the Grande in the first place) - it was a toss up between a Pajero Exceed, a Patrol ST-L, and the Grande. Overall I think the Grande was the best car for the price.

I found out yesterday that the spare wheel cover was a bit too wobbly for my liking, but after a little more foam padding was added to the cover, it now locks up nicely against the tyre. Ah, the modification process begins!

Whilst I'd love to get a front bar on the car, I think a very mild lift and some A/T tyres are going to be the first things to upgrade.

                • Hi from a long time lurker

Hi everybody, long time lurker who has finally found a voice and decided to say g'day. I'm Geoff and I have a 07 Grande V6 we bought a couple of years ago after the arrival of kid number 2. Since then we have added another (for a total of 3 boys!!) and geez I'm glad for the extra space. I am the previous owner of a couple of Commodores and this is my first 4WD and I am absolutely loving it. I doubt I could go back to a sedan after driving the Prado across most of Queensland.

We are currently living in Kowanyama up on the Gulf and I am looking after the kids whilst the wife is teaching at the local school. We have only been here since July and are moving to Cairns at the end of the school year. Loving it up here at the moment with all the fishing and camping opportunities around the area, but am definitely looking forward to returning to the 'big smoke'. $1.969/L for unleaded is getting a bit steep.

The Grande is currently standard but I am looking to do some work on it going forward. I have got plenty of great ideas from the forum and the expertise from the people on here will come in handy when it is time to get the mods going. I've put a pic below of the beast all loaded up for our trip to Karumba a couple of weeks ago when we had a public holiday out here. Thanks for a great forum and hope I can contribute in some way in the future.

WOW nearly $2 a litre that's pretty steep. Don't think it will get any better either. What's your diesel up there ?? Our petrol at the moment ranges from approx $1.40 to $1.60 for unleaded (that's 91) about $1.75 for premium unleaded (95/98 octane). Diesel around $1.40 to $1.50 approx.... Cheers Steve

                        Hey Steve,

Filled up the mower on Saturday and Unleaded is up to $2.00/L. I looked across to the Diesel pump and it was $2.04/L. Very happy to have the 180L tank out here. Heading back to Cairns for the holidays so just going to fill it to get us to Chillagoe where it is 'only' $1.70-$1.80. The price you pay I suppose.

                        Geoff

hi everyone, just another prado loving newbie signing on. ive seen the dedication of members on this website and the wealth of information available and finally took the plunge to sign on.allow me to introduce myself.. my name is paul i have a small family, live in shellharbour nsw and for the last 15 years have run my own automotive paintless dent repair company. my family and i have a passion for the outdoor lifestyle (surfing, remote camping, jetskis, fishing) and therefore the need for a 4wd. my first 4b was a 97 feroza, followed by a 1998 90 series 2.7 4cyl , followed by a 1999 90 series 3.4l 6cyl, followed by a 2004 v8 petrol 100 series and now im in my beloved (drumroll) (drumroll) 2005 4l v6 gxl. after much research i pimped her out (still more to come ) but here's how she rolls-

                              white in colour
                              5sp auto
                              safari snorkel
andrew's auto shift repair kit bullet and spring :/
                              rear arb diff lock
                              arb compressor
arb 4litre air tank (dont know why)
dual battery managed by redarc bcdc1220
piranha battery tray (have fun fitting to petrol)
arb colour coded deluxe winch bar

                              bushranger hid's
                              uniden 80 channeler
                              xlarge rhino roof rack/cage
                              tow bar
265/70/17 bf goodrich at's (only shoe she'll ever wear)
heavy duty tough dog coils up front mediums in rear 2" lift
tough dog adjustable shocks all around ( i know i know lets just see how they roll )
diff breathers and breathers on all that breathes
hilux washers ......what a gem thanks boys and girls

and thats about it. i need rear storage but thats a desicion ill make after further research.
i found this prado at a dealership completely stock, not even a tow bar with 90,000km perfect condition and paid 25 400k . i thought this was to good to let go . my preference has always been to buy older cars and deck them out and then actually use them without having to worry about scratches or body damage etc etc etc and really have some fun. i find the prado to be the perfect size and weight for my use and look forward to many years of enjoyment . i just got back from a 10 day fishing trip at fraser and am pleased out how the suspension and the vehicle responded. the adjustable suspension i found to be very responsive and i had ample time to play around with all the settings . for anyone heading to fraser soon the tailor fishing is at its best. anyway regards to all i look forward to contributing to this forum.

p.s. a big thanks to andrew for all his help i look forward to fitting every single thing he's manufactured to my prado
