'ello 'ello what have we here then?

Mike here, or Large to some.

Moved up from two cars, a town wagon and a hzj75 as a weekend basher to a 150 d4d

I loved the hzj but alas two kids and still, a wife , i needed more room.

Always liked the prado 120 and a brother in law who loves his 95 still and being a car nut i knew what i needed.

Mechanic with a couple of workshops in Brisbane, so hopefully i can add to the site, but also gather information, of which there is plenty and so far ive read loads of helpful posts, so thanks in advance.

I think im going to enjoy being a Prado owner.....

      Cheers Large

              G'day all,

I've been casually watching this forum for a couple of years now. The information on PP is excellent. I'm currently a July2007 Hilux SR5 d/cab TD manual owner but hoping to jump into a new 150 GXL TD auto in coming months. My father has a 120 GXL TD Auto of similar vintage and is looking to swap into a new 150 GXL TD auto by the end of the year also. I was looking to swap into a new Hilux again, but I've grown to love the new Prado. I've been into Amateur (ham) radio for the last few years, love camping and getting away, as many here do. I grew up on a farm in Western Vic and have had a long history with Toyota product, mainly 'Crusiers years ago - the 70 series was tougher than a brick sheizenhauzen even if the 2H was a bit of a slug!

Looking forward to the 150 and the ensuing build-up! Good site guys, keep it up!!

              Cheers, UR.

                G'day everyone,

Today was a milestone day with our new Prado arriving on the boat into Fremantle - hopefully only two more weeks before we take delivery. We signed up in October last year for a 2011 VX TD in Crystal Pearl. I kept the OEM additions to a minimum as I didn't want to pay the Luxury Tax Man any more than he deserves so we just added a factory Tow Bar, rubber floor mats in the front, rear and back section, plus headlight and bonnet protectors and front weathershields. Really happy with the deal we got from Grand Toyota, it was only a little more than the GXL on-road price!

The day we pick it up I'll be off to Bob Jane's to get some good ATR tyres - Looks like Yokohama Geolandars will be the go given the limited options in 18" tyre choices (and budget constraints) - so far they've been the only one's willing to trade-in the GrandTreks. I've spent the last couple of months reading as much info as possible on this site - wow there's heaps to absorb! I've already picked up a Redarc SBI12 as a dual battery will be the second mod. I also ordered four of the rear deck hooks from Pelican Parts and they arrived just the other day.

The Perth Caravan and Camping show is on next month so the plan is to go and squeeze a deal on some major mods, including:

ARB Deluxe Combination bar (colour matched)
OME Lift/Suspension Kit (may still look at alternative Bilstein options)
                IPF 900XS Driving lights
                Safari Snorkel
and maybe an Engel or ARB fridge freezer.

That should send me broke for a while so once that's done we'll be out and about making the most of the new toy - can't wait to take it out and get it dirty! Might try and get the first scratch on it out the way on day one so that I don't have to worry about that anymore

                Cya round the traps,

                Ben

                  Hi PPs,

I've been a Prado owner for a few years now but only just joined this forum! Fantastic forum with great information - I know I will enjoy being a part of it.

I am now on my second Prado which is a 2008 Silver D4D GXL 6sp. Unfortunately my first Prado (2005 GXL TD Auto) did not survive a trip down the Birdsville track last year during the July rains after a Simpson crossing - something to do with water in the engine while trying to rescue a family in a Hilux stuck in a rising creek crossing! Certainly an adventure at the time and luckily the Insurance came good hence my current Prado.

I learnt a lot from my first Prado and have installed OME suspension, Safari snorkel, ARB drawer and cargo barrier system, dual battery with Redarc isolator and other good touring gear. I usually can be seen towing a Jayco Hawk Outback that has been on many great outback adventures with plenty more planned.

I am a late bloomer in the 4wd game (early 50s - ouch!) but with the kids almost off our hands we are enjoying the extra freedom that this lifestyle provides.

Love the Prado - awsome touring and 4wd vehicle!

                    Hi all,
Found this forum when I was researching d4d problems. Purchased a LC120 swb reciently to get trough some severe weather we had here in Ireland before christmas. What I have is a very basic D4D '05, 6 speed geardox, swb, commercial ( no rere side windows) ex motorway bilding site vehicle, with 250K+ Km. I used to use old land rovers/range rovers fitted with toyota B engines about 15 years ago. ( My first car was a 1966 swb LR safari when I was 17) gave up on 4x4 for economy and all the yuppies driving suv's.
I have to say that I find the LC very pleasent and comfy to drive, my wife and kids much prefer it to the estate car, but for the economy and no rere seats.
I have only just started reading the forum sections, am checking out injector problems, fuel economy, tyres and minor mods.
                    slainte, from the auld sod

Welcome to PP Dermott, glad to hear you and the family are happy with the LC120 - alround a very good and reliable machine.
Hope you have deep pockets - the mod list grows expenentially once you start browsing through the rig buildups...

Hi everyone! Pillegro is here

I have already posted on the 'buying a Prado' page.

Never owned a Prado, let alone a FWD. Currently driving a SSV Commodore. Have come on here to get some advice and wordly wisdom, in my intro to 4WD vehicles.

Im a horsey girl, buying my first Prado so I can tow my steed to dressage comps :-)

Really appreciating all the advice being given to me. Hope to finally decide on my petrol v diesel conundrum very soon, and order my first 150 series Prado

                        xo

                            Hi all,

my name is Mario and I´m living in Northern Germany not far away from Hamburg (so please be lenient with my jerky english...). Since June 2010 I´m using a SWB 150series as a daily driver, which has replaced our HZJ73 in that skill. I own a modified HZJ79 as an expedition vehicle and use a competition-KZJ70 with a good friend for serious offroading. Because we have not many J15-drivers in Germany so far, I was looking for a competent Prado-platform - and found "pradopoint.com "! Great forum!!

Greetings from a cold and winterly europe!

                              Hi Everyone,

I've been reading this forum for a few months now, finding lots of great information!!!!

We've got a white 2003 V6 Grande bought second hand about 6 months ago. Currenlty has over bumper bullbar, tow bar, roof rails and racks and recently bought Bridgestone Dueler A/T's to replace the grandtrek's.

Got a few things I'd like to do to it, namely replace the over bumper bullbar with either a good second hand soveriegn or ARB/TJM bar. Will be getting a UHF and either dual battery or portable dual battery to power the fridge (Waeco 40L) in the next couple of months. Just need to wait for the finances to recover a bit after recently buying a new property.

Lots of nice looking rigs on the forum and love reading the trip reports as well, very inspirational!!!

                              Cheers,
                              Paul.

                                Hi All,

I have been using this sight for a number of months now and have valued the amount of info you all are willing to provide to us new prado owners.

Grew up north of Perth in a coastal town called Geraldton. Since getting my drivers licence have always owned 4WDS, from my 1st an Isuzu KB with the last 2 being Pajero SWB.

Before the kids came along me and wife explored/camped most of north WA, from Mt Augustus, Steep Point (most western point of mainland OZ), Karajini etc - now over 10 years ago.

Then moved to Perth, Kids come along (two boys now 7/5), careers and you hit the big 40. Call it a mid life crisis - but my dream 4WD has always been a Toyota Prado. Sold the last Pajero '96 SWB and convinced the wife on a 06 120 GLX. Hope now to get out of Perth now more and rediscover these areas with the boys.

Already done some improvements since looking at this site-suspension upgrade and lift.

Wish list - update my Avatar with the Prado in the Bush

                                Once again great site
