    • Welcome people.
      A few helpful hints:

      1. Throw out your lists, there is not enough space on that page for he new things you will want. Maintain an excel spreadhseet as its easier and can be used to send to your insurer.
      2. Go arrange a small second mortgage ($20,000) to start reducing the list which will just grow anyway.

      • Gday To All

        After a couple of weeks of observing from the sidelines thought it must be time for the intro.

        We have just purchased a 2008 GXL D4D Manual. We had to venture from Kiama to Dubbo to pick the rig up but the wait and the drive was well worth it..

        So details are
        2008 D4D GXL 6 Speed Manual
        Silver
        ARB Colour Coded Bullbar
        Safari Snorkel
        Toyota Towbar
        Yokohoma geolanders.

        Wish List
        Too long to mention at the moment.

        Cheers all.

        Anyone in kiama, wollongong area who is keen to get away camping etc drop us a line.

        • Hey All,

          My beloved '96 2.8L hilux was relegated to the bottom of the garden yesterday afternoon...it's place in the garage was taken by my new wage-eliminator...2001 3L turbo diesel manual Prado. Unfortunately it's fairly stock standard - hence the drain on my bank account. After procrastinating for the past 6 months or so I bought the car yesterday, my other half bought an electric brake controller last night, the tyres are being changed tomorrow and I drop it off at my friendly neighbourhood mechanic on Sunday night for the installation of dual batteries, anderson plug and the wiring for the brake controller! Good thing I'm fairly familiar with Toyota's to start with and I know probably one of the best diesel mechanics in the state (if not the country). Otherwise the last minute Chrissy plans may not be happening..."family trip" myself and my partner and our furry four legged children up to Warroora Station. Hopefully the bank account holds out long enough for us to get all the other bits we need over the weekend!

          Cheers,

          Gem
          2001 3L Turbo Diesel...unfortunately my list of extra's is a LOT shorter than my wish list! But I'm working on it.

          • Hi all, new to the forum, just purchased a brand new D4d today. We're hoping to take delivery of the vehicle this Friday so we can take it for a drive down to Sydney for the Christmas break. Is there a driving ability pre-requisite for tagging along to the SEQ trips?

            • Hi All,

              Firstly, congratulations on such a great forum! I've been lurking around for a little while doing some research and reading with envy about some of the awesome rig build ups here.

              Well, my story...... I am originally from Adelaide but for the last seven years have been living in Sydney. Then in the beginning of September for employment reasons we moved north and are now living in Darwin. My plan was to seriously start looking for my own rig (blank canvas) early in the new year, that WAS the plan.......

              I had always intended to buy my Prado from Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide as there was better rigs and more choice (and cheaper too!). So while I was down in Adelaide recently visiting family and celebrating my 40th birthday, I thought I would start to have a look around. Well the end result was that I test drove one on Wednesday and owned it on Friday!! The most expensive birthday present ever!

              So my new purchase:

              Model: 120 D4D GXL
              Year: 2008
              Colour: Silver
              Accessories: Toyota Alloy bullbar, Toyota towbar, Toyota Roofbars, Cibi Oscar spotties

              First Mod: Safe & Sound Maxi Rider (for our 3 year old four wheel driver!)

              Wishlist: how long have you got??

              Now looking forward to many camping/four drive trips in the top end.

              Poc
              2008 Silver 120 D4D, Sovereign Bullbar, Safari snorkel, Redarc dual battery setup, GME UHF...... Just getting started!!

                    • hello all, i am a regular poster so thought i should introduce myself.

                      Hi my name is Frederick, once was Wazza but with the upgrade i lost my password so now am frederick.

                      I enjoy the cut and thrust of some of the combatents and chuckle while reading from the side lines. The forum is a very valuable tool for those of us that are somewhat limited in our knowledge but keen to have a go anyway and you can bet each PPer has some ability in different areas so all added up a complete forum for Prado owners.

                      I have owned many hundreds of vehicles over my lifetime and i started out with a 1952 vanguard (slopeback) which i bought when i turned 15 on the 19th december 1963, yes thats is correct in NZ during that time you were able to obtain your full drivers licence the day you turned 15. The selling feature of this particular motor vehicle was it would hold 3 tall bottles of beer in each front door side pocket without a rattle a real selling feature in those days especially since the local copper could not find any beer in the car.
                      Any way digressing a bit, but the technology has really changed in motor vehicles making them more difficult if not impossible for the average fellow to work on so the forum information trail helps us emmensly.
                      In recent times i have owned three prados, the mighty 1996 RV 3.4 litre petrol, which we travelled 80,000 ks in and had converted over to LPG. Sadly not enough power to tow the caravan we had a consumed a record 25 litres per 100 ks once when towing the caravan up the new england highway on a trip from Sydney to Brisbane. While in Brisbane we traded up to a 2007 GLX petrol prado and towed the same van home to sydney using 14.5 litres per 100ks. Sadly due to work commitments we never used the Prado so sold it and the caravan. Since then a 12 months ago i retired a purchased my current vehicle so here it is,

                      Model: November 2006 D4D Prado GXL, 5 speed auto.
                      Year: 2006
                      Colour: Grey

                      Accessories: Cooper AT 3 tires, towbar, Bullbar sovereign, 2 x hid spotties, 2 x lightforce, Bonnet protector, weathershields, Anderson plug, dual battery setup with matson isolator, Allrounder second battery, In dash GPS (digoptions) with reverse camera so that i can see whos behind when backing and can also see the tow ball when connecting up caravan, dual battery monitor, EGT probe not yet fitted, UHF radio, pedders suspension lift kit, Rhino roof rack fitted by ARB, also ARB compressor and free tire repair kit. On dash monitor for rear of caravan camera that runs all the time monitoring traffic behind me, 3" beaudesert exhaust system, second caterpillar fuel filter fitted under bonnet to presieve the fuel prior to the OEM filter and of course Waeco fridge in the back to keep the drinks cold.

                      Mods for wish list: drawer setup in the back and a safetrip around australia next year.

                      Regards

                            She an all white, brand new 2011 petrol Landcuiser Prado GXL, ill post pics shortly. My hobbies camping, 4WD, and towed waterports, so all her modifications and uses will be inline with this. Obviously 4WD soecific works plus the ability to tow a light off road camper to a fully fueled 2.5 tonne ski boat.
                            That said so far, she is as she left City Toyota some three weeks ago but have a few things in the works so far.

                            Plans (soon

                            * Tint: over privacy glass might make it a little less than legal whoops)
                            * Clean up: (de-badge, i like my girls clean)
                            * Rims and tyres
                            * Install GMC UHF salvaged from the sierra

                            Plans (future
                            * Roof rack (platform?)
                            * Dual Battery setup
                            * Stereo upgrade (screens)
