  • Hello everyone, joined the other day because I was getting ready to trade my patrol 3L on a new vehicle. Prado was the favourite, and wanted some info from owners not dealers (car that is). Great forum, have read a bit here and there and already learn a lot. Signed on the dotted line yesterday, prado is new 2011 Silver GLX D4D auto, should be delivered no later than 26th June. Already booked into the tyre service for BFG AT's.
I'm not new to 4x4's (First Forum though so have some computer skills to learn).

Have owned Landrover Series III station wagon, Nissan GQ Patrol, Nissan GU Patrol and soon a Prado. Have enjoyed reading some of the rig builds, mine will be slow, have not worked out what I want to add yet. Plan to just get use to the vehicle first. Have lots of bits and pieces i'm moving over from the nissan. Have already read the Electric brake controller thread and will have that problem.
Hope to contribute to the knowledge here in the future, Brad.

      , Brad.
Geez Brad, well done m8 - delivery in 2 weeks from date of order! There's probably a number of us who'll want to tear strips off our dealers wanting 8 to 10 weeks delivery!!!!

      Half your luck.

We'll trade notes with the mods - like, how much for the BFG's?

      Cheers.

      • Hi 150 glx, tried 4car dealers, two had nothing to show me, no prados at all. One dealer offerred to show me a vehicle in for service if they rang the owner and they agreed. Couple of the sales guys I spoke to are just as frustrated as the customers, one said they only get their commission on delivery and eating bake beans was getting boring.

Last Dealer had 2 both sold and waiting for delivery, asked how come they had vehicles, bit evasive in his answer but it seems the allocation of vehicles may be related to previous sales history. Hunter valley is big in coal mining and this dealer is very close to the business end of the mining and appears to be getting more than my local dealer (quoted September - maybe).

Tyre service next door to dealer, 50 metres, happy to trade tyres, dont know if good deal or not. My use of vehicle suits AT's mor than MT's. Tyre service explained major shortage of BF Tryes, said some are coming through and has put me on the list. Price not set yet as I may have to get Cooper's if the BF's don't arrive in time. Approx figure at this time $800 - $900.
Was told if I ordered a vehicle to get a particular colour it would be 8 - 10 weeks, this one was on their delivery list and unsold. Just lucky.
First Mod I hope to do will be dual battery, dealer warned me th alternator has thermal protection system and reduces power if it gets hot from over work, doesn't like some dual battery systems. Piaranah and redarc are suitable.
I suppose good things come to those who wait, your turn will come.
        Brad.

'Onya Brad, right place at the right time .

Thanks for the dual battery tips and the tyre (unavailability) situation. I've seen plenty of complaints in the press about the D4Ds going into limp mode in the sand, from overheating.

                    • Hi All,

Figured it was about time I should say G'day properly, was hoping it would happen with details of a newly purchased Prado, but seems that that is proving more difficult than I had though! Looking for a post 07 upgrade GXL - probably petrol as the diesels down here have a huge premium on them here which makes them not so attractive.

Anyway, I'm down here in Tassie, and with growing family the 01 Rav4 is getting at tad small, and I have visions of getting into some more remote areas of the state to do some fishing (towing hopefully a small boat in the near future) hence the Prado is top of the list. Have kicked a few tires down here, but the elusive "Right One" is proving hard to find (or too far out of the budget). Seriously thinking of jumping on the boat and heading to the big island to look at a few!

Just have to be patient now to put into action plans for what needs to happen as soon as I do acquire one thanks to some great ideas and suggestions here!

Anyway, a great site, with some top info, even impressed a mate with 90 series the other day about how to get his rear seats out without unbolting as a result reading about it here! Stay tuned for some updates when the big day happens! Big thanks to the guys who have helped out with a couple of questions I have asked so far!

                      Cheers
                      Rod

                      • Hi to everyone.
Just picked up an 08 GX in white.
It is diesel and manual with Toyota bullbar and cargo barrier.

Now the fun begins fitting it out to tow our camper. Removed the brake controller, UHF and anderson plug from our Jeep Cherokee.
Looking for somewhere to mount the Icom UHF.

                        Thanks for the info.
