  • Hi all,
My name is Aaron, i pick up my first prado this friday. 08 D4D GXL Manual in white done 90k with alloy toyota bar, dual batteries, safari snorkel and bf goodrich tyres. I've had a few 4WD's a '95 75 series crusier 1HZ turbo, '99 rodeo dual cab t/d and just traded 08 hilux D4D manual dual cab. The prado feels like its got more grunt than the hilux particularly in the mid range. Anyway just saying g'day and hopefully the prado's a good thing.
    Cheers.
2016 1GD GXL 6 speed auto, ARB colour coded summit bar, LED driving lights, duel batteries, BF Goodrich tyres, window tint.

        • Welcome to the forum, kieranu. If you already have traction control fitted to your GXL, I wouldn't be considering lockers any time soon.

          • Thanks, will bear that in mind. Low on the list, only something I'm considering putting on for touring if I find myself in a position they would have probably gotten me out of prior.

                • Welcome Angleblooms, good to see a South African on here. Extra good as I have been trying to get some gear for my Prado from South Africa without much sucess at this stage. Might be calling on you for some local knowledge if I can't sort it out!

Nice rig BTW, love the 285's, keep thinking about them for myself but still in the too hard basket for me.

                  Cheers Andrew

                  • Hi Guys

Just let me know if I can help with something from this side!

Regarding the 285's.......I was deperate to get a set of muds in December and every shop and also BF themselves did not have stock in my size. Found the set of 285's at a local dealer. The front tyres did touch the strut when the vehicle is on the lift......so we got away with it by installing 8mm spacers. Although I was not happy with the spacer idea at first I am not experiencing any problems doing an obstackle trail. They fit on the Prado's standard rims no problem. The OME raised suspension was the added bonus I needed.
                    Regards
                    John

                    • G'day Prado Point.
I have just joined this forum having just bought a 2006 120 series Prado which was forced on me after writing off my Patrol. I have a bit to catch up on with the Prado but from what I seen and driven so far I am very impressed by its on and off road capabilities.

I have it booked in for a Winch Bar and Snorkel fitting and am on the lookout some draws and water tank for the back. The only thing I am unsure about is what suspension and lift kit to go for. I am sure there are plenty of threads to go over and I'll spend the next few days deep in research.

                      Cheers
                      Jim

                          • Hey there fellow Prado owners. After many years I have recently changed from full size Cruiser to a Prado, (I've always been a cruiser man so changing from Toyota was never an option!) I googled "Aftermarket seats for Prado" and your forum came up so I had a read. I was so impressed I joined. Here's a bit about the Family and the Prado:

The Family- 1 wife and 2 girls- all love the great outdoors- the kids were camping at 1 yo.
The Prado- 2006 TD GXL stock when purchased. Mods (so far) Cooper ATR3 tyres, ARB front bar, Hella Rally Compact spot's, Duel batteries with Pirhana digital monitor, Headrest DVD players- for the kids, UHF, Redarc remote electric trailer brake, Garmin GPS, Tom Tom Navigator.
On order- Snorkel and roof rack
On wish list- Too many to mention
Favorite 4wd destination- Vic high country (Wonnangatta especially)
Towing- Jayco Expanda Outback for the easy ones- Tent for the harder ones.

By the way thanks Forum for keeping me up all night!

                            Dan

                              • 1 wife

Thanks Shan, my 1 wife is also pleased that this is the case!
I read an intro from member AZPRADO who has admitted to being a "Pradoholic" and it got me thinking- My 1 wife reckons I have a disease called Accesoritis, which can only be explained as a compulsive desire to purchase any 4X4 accessory that exists. Then when there are no more accesories available, I trade it on a newy and start all over. Maybe if enough of us with this disease can convince the Government to recognise it then we could use a medicare card to subsidise the cost of accessories? Who's with me?
Seriously though I am still filtering through all the threads and picking up some good ideas.
                                Dan
