      • Hey all, i'm Ben

Tomorrow we'll be picking up our 2014 GXL D4D Manual in the Metal Storm. We wanted the blue but none in the country unfortunately. Only accessory we got from factory was the towbar. Don't have a wish list at the moment as this will be our first foray into the 4WD market as having a set of twins pretty much rendered the boot space in a commodore as useless. Will see how adventurous we get as to how that wish list comes along but looking forward to going places a lowered commodore can't go

        • Gday, I'm new to the Prado family and new to 4x4, so I've been reading up as much as possible, and looking forward to asking any questions I can't find answers to, but that probably won't be for a while, because I can see there is a LOT of info on this site.

          Model: GXL 3.0TD 1KZ
          Year: 2006
          Colour: White
Accessories: OME 2" Lift; Opposite Lock Dual Wheel Carrier; ARB Deluxe Steel Rack; ARB Compressor; Black Widow Drawer System; Cargo Barrier; UHF Radio; ARB Bullbar (non-winch compatible...); Flexi Tank Water Tank with tap; Dual Battery System; 3x IPF Spotlights.
Wishlist: Where do I start...? XROX Winch Bar & Sliders; 12000lb Winch; Diff Locks; Fridge/Freezer; Foxwing Awning; Roof Mounted High Lift Jack & Shovel; MaxTrax; Snorkel; In Dash GPS/DVD/Reversing Camera; and last but not least: some advanced Driver Training. I don't ask for much.....

I am happy enough with my new rig as it is a well maintained one owner vehicle with Full Dealer Service History and Log Books from new and the accessories that come with it make it a good base to build on. It is gonna take time to build it in to the rig I want, because I can see already it's like a bottomless pit for spending, but I am looking forward to building a highly capable offroad rig and getting off the beaten track.

          • Welcome Donkey. I'm also a newbie to 4wd and agree that PP has been a valuable source of info in buying my Prado and in also helping me decide on what accessories to get next! Cant wait to get out and start exploring SEQ after a few more purchases!

              • Hi Browny, I got the GME TX3540S. the unit is mounted under the centre console and the hand piece clips into a small box at the side. All controls are on the hand piece. Works well for me. I have put a couple of Pics here to show you.

New to the forum, am on to my second Prado, first sadly met its end by rolling down the drive and into a tree.

                  • Howdy-ho Neighborino's

I am at this point in time looking at getting a 150 Prado. Hopefully Petrol Auto GXL but could end up getting a Diesel Auto GX.
I was informed by my wife that whatever we get it will be named Paddy..........

The family (Spud Peeler and two boys) like to go wheeling and camping and touring as often as possible. Our camping method is modified 2011 GIC Offroad trailer (people bag them but I love the damn thing!) though I do swag it for boys weekends and quick overnighters

I currently drive a 2008 GU Pootroll which is at the end of it's lease very soon. I cannot wait to see the back of it. I would elaborate but it's a long story full of tears and heartache and dollars rolling out the door to keep the mongrel thing on the road......anyhoo, I digress

I have been on here a bit lately lurking and learning and I look forward to doing more of the same as it seems like a pretty good group of people

Once I buy I will post up the details and start my build thread. Look forward to catching up with y'all around a campfire somewhere

                    Cheers
                    Nick

                      • Hey guys,

I've been lurking for a few weeks now.. thought I'd better get post #1 underway. I want to say thanks to all the guys in the rig build up section for the inspiration and invaluable information while I was looking at cars.

Just took ownership of my 2004 120 series GXL with a 1KZ in it tonight!

                        Model: 120 Series GXL
                        Year: 2004
                        Colour: White.. white
Accessories: Factory/sovereign bullbar, rhino roof racks, driving lights (pretty much stock),

Wishlist: BFG 265/70/17's (my first purchase, going on this week), snorkel, 2" lift, radio, drawer system (designing my own), awning and RTT, compressor etc.

I'm a fan of keeping it simple and neat but... I'm a mechanical design engineer by trade so naturally can't wait to sink my teeth into some mods, see what trouble I can get myself into!

                        Cheers,

                          • G'day Folks.

Just a quick post to introduce myself. Ive finally decided to part ways with my 09 Triton and head back to a Prado. I had a 90 Series GXL 'Snowy' 3.4V6 which is the best car ive ever owned. I only sold it because the wife wouldnt drive it (drove like a 'boat' apparently) and it was a monster on fuel.

The wife got a Lancer a couple of years ago and its been a great car so I thought id give the Triton a go. Was looking at Hiluxs because I have a dog (who almost refuses to travel in the canopy and I was sick of the dog hair) and its also good to chuck all of my dirt dirtbike gear in after a days ride. The price difference was 10k so i gave the Triton a go. Not a bad car and very capable and I had no problems with it until i was in the Vic High Country at Xmas. Over heated 3 times and I continued to have trouble with it overheating until i changed the thermostat and radiator cap (i have a radiator for it in the garage ready to go in also!). It surges, the 4x4 and airbag light have come on after my play in the Brindabellas over the weekend and the interior is cheap (the paint is coming of the door trims/steering wheel etc). Its also an auto and is gutless as... well you know.

So I put a business case into the wife, grovelled and basically told her id made a mistake (which i have). So im on the hunt for a 04-06 GXL (ill go into specifics on the 120 section) as i want to avoid the common fail issues. Price is also a consideration as I want to upgrade my KTM in the next year also

Ive been bush a bit and i like to travel (done the Cape 4 times (live in Cairns for 4.5 years), Vic High Country, Fraser twice and im about to start planning my first Simpson xing next year!) Cant wait to get back into driving a Prado. They are a top car!

I look forward to chatting with you all and seeking as much advice as possible. Trust me, ill ask some questions!

                            Cheers

                              • Hi all,
I have been looking at this site for around six months, and since I've now bought a car from the info & recommendations my boyfriend and I found on here, I thought I'd better join & share!
                                Model: landcruiser Prado GLX
                                Year: 2000
                                Colour: Green & Silver
Accessories: Tow bar, bull bar, soft roof racks, 3kids all wanting to sit in the back
Wishlist: Roof Racks/luggage tray, USB/Bluetooth, CB, snorkel, fishing rod holder inside, kayak hoist (cause I'm too short, it's a struggle!) Backup/second battery in the back!

Have been camping, fishing, kayaking, off-roading, highway trips put over 4000kms on it in the month we've had it, and never been happier in another car, it's opened up our world with the extra seats & capabilities!
Look forward to learning more, trying more & sharing experiences with you all!
