Gay Marriage and Carbon Tax.... You have taken issues that are going to happen or might happen and the facts are irrevelant, these issues are still being fought for.

The FACT is in Australia we can run big tyres and lift if we want, taking that choice away is wrong and i fully support the fight to keep it.

As long as the mods on your vehicle do not adversly effect the safety to yourself or others, then it should be open slather, BUT the crackdown needs to be focused on the people who think they are tough and can emulate what the comp trucks can do, and when these people/idiots/yobbos get cought, they think they are tougher and try to intimidate the person/s who cought them out.

The biggest potential issue out of these changes is the handover of certification to mechanics. This is a step backwards as far as safety is concerned. They do not have the training of an engineer, and they will be able to certify their OWN work.

While I have my own thoughts on the amount of lift and size of tyres, I agree with this one the most

We're not even allowed to lift 4wd wagons to 75mm in Qld. Our limit is 50mm on the dot maximum for any increase in height above standard. The Qld law also states that the height of the tyre & wheel combination cannot exceed 15mm more than the original 265/70R16 tyres factory fitted to these vehicles. No engineering certificate is available in Qld to make this tyre fitment or larger legal under any circumstances, as well as a lift above 50mm. Not that you'd really want to go higher than a 50mm suspension/body lift in a Prado due to on-road stability and the reduced roll-over angle when off roading. It doesn't stop many people though. You still see Patrols, Landcruisers and Hi-Luxes getting around here with 4 inch lifts or more on them. I wouldn't expect every Transport Dept. officer out there who's never owned a 4wd to really know what to look for to be honest. You'd be safe more often than not of attracting their attention. And just rub the writing off the standard fitted tyre size placard sticker with an eraser until you can't read it any more to reduce the risk even further. But you NSW boys are lucky to have your limit only set at 75mm.

                PREVIOUSLY:
The VSCCS scheme which was meant to be put in place in late September was delayed. According to RTA it was then expected to be put in place early December.

                UPDATE:
Now; I've just heard that as of yesterday, vehicles can no longer be certified by engineers under the existing scheme (ECS). So it looks like they've finally done it. This is unfortunate news for anyone with their vehicle in a shop currently being modified for a certificate.

PS - It seems to have been timed in with the organisational change. RTA is now known as NSW Transport; Roads & Maritime Services. http://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/
