Also Craig if it is a cast alloy (looks like it) then you would need to be careful with puting a handle to fit over the top of it as this may cause it to crack.
See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Cast materials can be welded quite successfully as long as they are done in a way specific to the material.
Generally speaking, to weld castings you have to use methods (rods etc) specific to that material (duh!) but the most important thing is to have the job your welding preheated to a few hundred degrees prior and to let them cool down slowly in an oven after welding as to not cause cracking and surface fractures.
This is most important for the cast aluminium and iron, not so much for the steel.
Annealing again afterwards also reduces the chances of cracking later on from internal stress, heating up evenly to 4-500 degrees and letting cool slowly.
The lever is most likely cast aluminium, maybe steel, but definitely not cast iron, easy to tell once removed.
Aluminium is light and doesnt spark on the grinder, cast iron, is heavy, usually has visual porosity and has very little spark on the grinder and cast steel is heavy and is very "sparky" on the grinder.
Both can also be easily annealed first to reduce the likelyhood of cracking.
Sounds complicated but really isnt, anyone who is setup for welding on different materials can handle it easily.
Oh, also it may be forged, not cast, but I doubt it

Have ordered a XD9000 Clutch Lever kit today to replace my Magnum toggle... (not as cheap as I would have liked, but will make life easier when required...)

I dropped into a mob called Winch Industries in Moorooka and asked the question. The guy was unsure but got on the phone to the Warn distributor Product manager who confirmed that it will fit. Unfortunately, you cant just buy the lever. It comes in a kit (so I will find out when it lands on my door as to just what $100 gets me!) It "should" just be as simple as removing the Lever detent screw and removing the old lever and seal and replacing with the XD type....
Managed to get some spare time to my self this arvo to change over the freespool clutch lever. To actually change over the lever was as easy as expected (2 minute job....) Until I encountered an issue. firstly I removed the Clutch Lever Detent screw as shown in previous post and the lever simply lifted out. I should say prior to this I spooled out a metre or so of cable from the winch in case I had to muck around with having to re-align gearing etc...
Here is the new replacement lever which comes in a kit from Warn Industries containing lever, replacement seal, Detent screw and 2 main gaskets (not shown)
Heres a comparo pic of original Magnum Lever vs Warn XD9000 Lever
So the new lever went in easily. The only issue I had was that the new, much longer lever would not clear the inside of the Bull bar (bugger!)
So I needed to rotate the Gear train housing 90 degrees, moving the freespool lever towards the radiator. This wasn't too hard (apart from having to remove the 10 allen keyed screws from the housing) The only issue with having the lever in this position, is that now to operate/access the freespool lever, I need to lift the bonnet which really is no biggie as the access hole on the top of the ARB Sahara bar between the winch control box and the LH spottie was tight for my hand to get into anyway...
Once rotated, access is much easier, the new lever provides plenty of leverage, making operation of the freespool lever effortless (at last)
Next job will be to re-route the cabling away from the lever. Although it doesn't stop me from operating the clutch lever, I'll feel more comfortable with it further out of the way...
Good onya Craig, good job, bet it makes using it a pleasure now

Next trip is Janowen Hills (mid Jan) with the SEQ Crew. Mind you, I think there will be a few of the lads champing at the bit to break out their chrissy presents!!!
I have just had my ARB Deluxe Winchbar fitted and am contemplating putting a winch on. I have been reading lots of good reports on the Tigerz 11 Winches, value for money and reliability. I was leaning towards the 12 000 Pound Grande Model wrapped in Rope at $740 delivered sounds like a pretty reasonable price. Has anyone got any horror stories to tell about these? I am heading to the 4x4 show this weekend so will see if there are any deals going. Here is a link to tigerz11's website. They seem to be doing some pretty good deals at present. http://tigerz11.com.au/

Hi Gordon
Just for interest sake, I just got the BCF specials catalogue today.
They are doing indentical winches to the Tigerz, rope and hawse (braded XTM) for $599.
These appear to be the exact same winch.
Be aware that with either, you will need a different (offset) hawse to suit the ARB bar so factor in the additional cost.
From all that have the Tigerz winch they have a good rap.
Cheers

Hey mate the tigerz11 winch is a great bit of gear. I have been selling them for a while now and never had anyone have any issues. They come with a great warranty and atm they are on special for $699 + delivery, which makes them great value for money.
Apart from a slightly bigger motor and faster gearing and $270, what is the difference between the Tigerz11 Hercules and Grande winches. Is the Grande really worth the extra money?
