There is no doubt that the early D4Ds have had more problems that later ones when it comes to the injectors. Any chance of getting some warranty of some sort from the dealer? Argument about the D4D notwithstanding does the 06 have option packs? Rear A/C is great etc. You need to factor what fitting out the newer Prado will cost against any advantages it has. Auto 4sp vs 5 sp or manual 5sp vs 6sp etc. And you need to make sure the older fitout is in good condition, no point in having to redo an installation of a dual battery for example. Oh and if you are after the sales brochures for both models send me a pm as I have both as pdf.

I would go the 1KZ. More than happy with mine. But, given the sand work we do am slightly wishing I had gone with an auto. Although on rough terrain the manual is amazing in low range. Anyway, the 1KZ is fully kitted. It tows well - provided you don't want to drag another car off at the lights - and has good economy. There's 6 or more k worth of goodies on it already. Saves a lot of money in the long run....

There are many of them around, they rebuild the old ones or use aftermarket.

I have already asked the dealer if the injectors have been replaced, still waiting his reply. What would be the chances of it having been done if the car has 90,000k's??
Tomorrow I think I'll organize a RAA inspection on the 04 model and go from there. No warranty on a private sale = extra precaution before buying.

Thanks for all the comments and advice.

Dan - if it has had services on time, and to the book, then the 1kz shouldn't be a problem.
