We have to remember that Windows 7 is still a new operating system, it costs small business a great deal of cash to have drivers rewitten for distribution with new operating systems so that their hardware is compatible. For now their system works, in time Windows 7 support will be available for sure.

You could also try installing on your Window7 machine, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/ from here you can have a virtual XP machine running on you laptop which will support all your old stuff. (and yes it's free)
