  • how to fit handles to a waeco fridge

i have an "old" waeco 40 lt fridge that never had the handles fitted to it that most of the fridges today seem to have. it hasnt been a problem as it lives in the car most of the time and comes out rarely.

but now i have drawers and a fridge slide and it would be so easy to fit something like the ironman straps to hold it in place to the slide if the fridge simply had handles. so is there a way to fit waeco, aftermarket or any other handles to it so straps could wrap around them?

btw it has a fridge cover which has a chrome ring in each corner which i presume is to tie it down. in the worst case i will use these, but i would have thought they would not last too long in a stressful situation as i thought they would simply bend open?? i have tried straps etc crossed over the top from 1 end to the other but as the fridge is narrower than the slide it isnt the best way, plus you have to remove them every time you want to open the fridge.

so anyone fitted any handles to their fridge or have any other ideas, photos etc of theirs ??? thanx....

what do you use from each of those hooks? i have about 280 - 300 mm at each corner from the slide to the corner rings ( "D" rings i think they are called). the D rings are only small about 15 - 20mm opening in them

I use one of the waeco straps that go through the ring?? bit hard to explain similiar to using a belt?? i will get a picture.

I found some rhino ones, but exactly the same except the waeco ones are a bit shorter.

ok now i got it! these straps have the metal buckle you slide the strap back through. i seen them at bunnings but i wasnt thinking of using them on the cover then but obviously this will work that way as long as the D rings/cover holds out.

Thanks PP (+ Hutch) it looks like its time spend some more money! i will be off to buy 4 x 1 metre straps i think. lucky i have a couple bunnings gift cards here to soften the blow

You probably Only need two, one at each end.

If the fridge has a lip moulded into each end could you run 2 ratchet straps or similar, first would go from the back anchor points on the slide, over the front lip and back to the other side of the rear of the slide and the second from the front anchor point on the slide, over the rear lip and back down to the other side of the front of the slide? If the lip is big enough to tie hold the strap over it that may work but its a bit hard to tell without pictures.

Has anyone tried the Waeco Universal Fitting Kit to attach their fridge to the fridge slide?

                      http://www.getawaeco.com.au/products.asp?id=124&catId=6

It is cheap enough from the outlet shop, so am considering giving it a try, rather than the handles and straps.

Would it work or is it only useful for attaching directly to a floor?
