My Hid spotties went on last week and they work very well but I noticed yesterday TJM installed two pencil beams and not the spread beam on the passenger side.....Is it worth taking it back for the spread or just leave it as two pencil beams ?

Two pencil beams or pencil plus spread?

My preference with HID would be 2 spreads, or a pencil and a spread.
why? A HID pencil will have a lot of distance - further than you need. I'd rather see an animal etc coming from the side of the road than spot a truck 2km directly in front of me.2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,

I have a spread and a pencil. This is NOT my preference as I only turn them on with the high beam (as per standard laws). If I had a choice I would listen to the ARB guys and install 2 PENCIL BEAMS!
Now I am going to buy a pencil to rectify the situation.......

I guess it really depends on how much spread is on offer from your pencil beams. I'm running 1 x pencil, 1 x spread and am happy with that. I dont really need 2 pencils lighting up the end of the road when 1 is sufficient. I'm more interested whats on the side of the road about to say "goodbye cruel world". One down side of the HID spread beams is the reflection from road signs. Perhaps this would be minimized with 2 x pencils beams?

All valid points...I was thinking maybe just upgrade my high beam to Hid to get the spread from them but street signs may be painfully bright. The two pencils at the moment just create a big bright ball wayyyy down the road. What if the left side spot was slightly aimed left to pick up more of the side of the road?2010 Kakadu with all the usual stuff.... Build up thread below

If you asked for pencil/spread that is what you should have, if they put something else on then get them to rectify it.
As what has been said above, yes, you can get reflection back from road signs at the side of the road with the HID spread or combination beams, however, with HID, you adjust them differently to halogen lights, so the passenger side light (usually the spread beam) should be adjusted slightly to the right (or centre of the road), this stops the reflection coming back at you with road signs.
Also with HID lights, you do not need the pencil beam in both lights, just have it in the drivers side, this will light up way down the road, and have the spread beam in the passenger side (adjusted as I have mentioned), this will light up the road closer to the front of the vehicle and to the sides of the road.97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

So the reflector is different as well is it. I was hoping just the lens as I want to change my combo to a spot/spot.Originally posted by D4D View PostWith the IPF fatboy globes in my headlights I get enough spread, so I am going to change my IPF 900xs spread/spot combo to spot x2. Yes the reflectors are different, thats how they direct the light, the bulbs have nothing to do with the direction of the light.Originally posted by D4D View PostThat's what ARB Kilsyth told me97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

Just a quick point, blatant is spelt wrong in your signature. It's "blantantly" obvious
oh, and you now have a green dot (so we are driving on the bitumen being a distinguished road, which sucks)Bitumen: A blatant waste of taxpayers money!

Whilst we are picking on spelling then, can someone tell me how you make 'high beans' go blind are as per Kakadaz's signature block?
