I have only tried this combination - Xtrail, blackberry & laplogger & its not working - Blackberry was able to link with the unit but I get no data in the application & no flashing lights on the unit itself, just the power light. It does cycle thru the lights when first plugged in however. Being a serial device it probably relies on the communications from the blackberry to request data so at this stage I don't know which bit doesn't work.

I hunted yesterday for the OBD connector in the 150 but I can't find it - no doubt its black on a black background somewhere up under the dash! If anyone knows where it is please advise!

So after complaining this morning about it taking a long time from OS, it arrived in the post today. Hooked it up (for those who can't find the port, it's below the fuse box inside on the 120). I've got an '08 D4D and it works well. Haven't taken it for a drive yet, just sat in the driveway and saw what I could see. I connected via my phone (Android, HTC Desire) using the Torque app. No data for fuel usage/avg, so assume it's stored on the unit, and not the engine computer. I have to take a run to the airport this afternoon, so that will give it some k's to see how we get on.

Apparently they are all located under your internal fuse box. When told this I found mine easy enough. In a 120 you do need to get right under to find it unless you take the facia off in which case its easy.

It slides in horizontally just to the right of the steering column.

Just in front of your right knee.

OK I will have a look again....I have an airbag there under the steering column & to the right there was some white plastic which looked like an air duct....further to the right & hidden up underneath is the fuse box.....

              OK It works!
Issue 1 was I had to remove a lower panel to get access to the OBD connector on the 150 - The connector can be seen by looking thru the hole where the bonnet release lever is. To get access, the panel which sits horizontally under the whole right side has to be unclipped & removed.
Update: the panel doesn't have to be removed if it is located properly. In my case the back was too low which covered the OBD port!
Issue 2 was I didn't 'connect' the blackberry to the OBD device in the laplogger program. This requires that you go into 'Actions' & then choose the 'blackberry' button & from that menu choose 'Start'. It will ask you which device you want to connect via & then try & connect. I already had the bluetooth connection done previously with little trouble but you also need to tell the program to connect using that device. I had found no instructions on how to use the program anywhere on the web! The bluetooth pin code was 1234. Some other devices I have read have a pin of 0000.

The program connection requires that the key is in the spot just before crank....then the connection can be made & then you can start the car & monitor.

On the Xtrail, all the shown readings appeared correct - throttle position went from 30-60% (I assume this is the normal raw data range thus avoiding errors at 0 & 100%)
In addition the rpm & coolant temperature was also correct. I didn't test the speed as that would require driving somewhere

To get the 150 to the pre-crank position, you press the start key without your foot on the brake. Make the connection & then put your foot on the brake & the start light goes green & a push will start the car.

Both the temperature & rpm seemed right, but the throttle position was erratic...it started around 30% & rose to 40% & then dropped back around 30% even though I was increasing the throttle position.
On release the reported throttle position was around 25%....

So now I need to find a better program I think which allows me to monitor more things...I also have an old tablet PC which I may add bluetooth to & see if that will work OK....there's not many programs for the blackberry!

              Cheers

So are you saying it works well on the 150?
Have toyota finally adopted the OBDII standard with the 150?

My understanding that in Australia all Petrol Cars had to be OBDII compliant on Jan 2006 & Diesels Jan 2007.
So later 120's will work as well.

                  From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics
                  ADR 79/01 & 79/02 (Australian OBD Standard)
The ADR 79/01 (Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 79/01 – Emission Control for Light Vehicles) 2005) standard is the Australian equivalent of OBD-II.
It applies to all vehicles of category M1 and N1 with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 3500kg or less, registered from new within Australia and produced since January 1st 2006 for petrol (gasoline) engined cars and since January 1st 2007 for diesel engined cars. [9]
For newly introduced models, the regulation dates applied a year earlier - January 1st 2005 for petrol and January 1st 2006 for diesel.
The ADR 79/01 standard was supplemented by the ADR 79/02 standard which imposed tighter emissions restrictions, applicable to all vehicles of class M1 and N1 with a Gross Vehicle Weight rating of 3500kg or less, from July 1st 2008 for new models, July 1st 2010 for all models. [10]
The technical implementation of this standard is essentially the same as OBD-II, with the same SAE J1962 diagnostic link connector and signal protocols being used.
                  Cheers

                    From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics
Toyota did not have the same understanding though.
They use the standard 16 pin OBD plug but the Denso (Toyota) computers don't speak regular OBDII. Toyota uses their own proprietry interface language M-OBD which is not read by most OBDII scanners. Some Toyotas are OBDII compliant, (depending on where they were built, and intended market).
Generally, if pin 13 is used, then the computer is M-OBD. If pin 13 is blanked off, then it is OBDII.

That is why I asked the question in my previous post.

I was not aware of M-OBD....however SnowGuide on his 120 D4D & myself on my March 2011 150 D4D have both reported in this thread at least basic operation. (Speed, throttle%, rpm & coolant temp but for me that is a limitation of the software I was using)
I intend to test with a laptop inwhich more detail programs can be run & tested, rather than via my blackberry.

I wonder if scanguages understand M-OBD as well? Or are the all just OBDII compliant. I do know that there are a few different protocols used in ODBII but the the device I have claims to understand them all....

Thanks sweatpea I had a look at your photo & thought my cover is very similar to yours......The issue was my panel wasn't put back right! It was too low at the back which meant it covered the OBD connector. The bonnet release cable pushes quite strongly on the panel when you try & fit it in the right spot so perhaps during a previous service it was not returned to its proper spot.

Now I have clean access to the OBD port!
                          Cheers

Is anyone with a 120 getting realistic l/100km fuel consumption figures? Mine read in the 20s with minimal throttle, and in the 30s when coasting down a hill, letting compression keep the speed in check. Almost like it's just counting rpm, with a bit of magic, to arrive at a number.

Have you tried another program & could the number be in a different format such as km/l or mpg perhaps.....since the numbers get bigger with what should be less full consumption.

Folks, been running the ScanGaugeII a couple years now in my 2009 KDJ120. It works very well but takes a little setting up.
If you follow the setup instructions you'll go well. My fuel setting has settled around 33.4%, on 'Diesela' setting.
I have just ordered the Bluetooth version on Ozstock yesterday as I try to find the memory location codes for the auto.
I mounted the head unit with some valcro and some car carpet glue on top of steering column. (looks ok). With the LHK (litres per Hundred K's) gauge showing, you will change your driving habits very quickly.
Interestingly TPS(Throttle Position Sensor) never reads, so Mr Toejoe my use his own standard.
