And you think that 40 out of 2000 is a good number? Its been a while since I have been to a trade night but Makita and Bosch and the likes used to quote returns of 1 in 1000 - 1200 for their products.

If you tell us 1 in 50 is a dud, then add the likes of myself and Lippa, add those that have had issues that need to be worked through, and if you read the threads there are a lot with issues, then it is pretty clear that these units are at the junk end of the market. I don't mean to be harsh Matt as I know you try your best, i do however believe I should call it as I see it.

And in case you were wondering a different SD card doesn't make the slightest difference, every second funtion in Ozi still causes the unit to freeze and I have to reboot it in order to do anything.

    Cheers Andrew

That's only a 2% failure rate which is pretty good in electrical goods I think.

my ranger unit was replaced once and sent back for repairs 6 times, and currently does not work. my prado unit was replaced 4 times and sent back twice for repairs, (not including the time I smashed the screen), yup rooted too!

        put that into a percentage......

I'm not sure they'd be any different. I wouldn't be surprised if they all came out of the same factory.
Mine is the TP09X1 model bit over a year old and now the screen has gone out of whack. Cant calibrate it. Matt has told me the screen is consumable and needs replacing! Not happy that it only lasted a year and a bit. Ozi also locks up on mine sometimes and means I have to press the reset button to get it to work again(which means losing all my settings). I've never really liked Ozi either, too complicated(although the Android versions not bad).
I've had no issues with using the bluetooth to my phone. Works well(not that I've used it much). Reverse camera works well as soon as I select reverse gear it comes on. My only other real gripe is that it can take up to 15 mins to lock onto satelites(on a clear day out in the open) whereas it only took about a minute when I first bought it. Oh and not user friendly enough, I think too many bells and whistles and not enough thought gone into actually making it work well.
BUT...... it is heaps cheaper than the brand name ones. So you get what you pay for.

I had a similar issue with my Garmin GVN 52, it went from a few seconds to lock on to nearly 20 mins at times. I tried another GPS antenna - no difference I updated the firmware and now back to mere seconds to lock on. Perhaps there is a simialr update available for the TP09X1 ?

I've been exploring the all in one DVD/GPS/everything players for some weeks and I've yet to find one that has any reliability attached to it. No one has spare parts available and most have to be returned to China when they crap out.
I was going to buy a Digoptions unit as at least the return postage to Melbourne is cheaper but then you can buy identical looking units from other suppliers in China for considerably less $$$ which makes the pain of any failure easier to bare.

                  Back to the research...

Hi Malcom, whether you purchase from DIG Options or not, i think it's important to that you know a few things about purchasing from overseas. The first one being, the software interface is generally from a third party. Same software, different components so quality of parts, engineering etc are different - of course the product may be from the same factory also. The second, there are 2 different grades of products. There's a domestic (china) grade which the trading companies like Foxway, Fedom and any others will sell as they're cheaper, and export grade which we can only purchase direct from the factory in large volumes. Despite these factors, the big one to remember is $80+ to send back to china (possibly also return shipping), varying levels of service, and the longevity of the company. I think when GST is factored in we are competitively priced even with China sellers.

Yes but if its cheap enough, you can throw it away without requiring resultant anger management...

I've had my Digoptions unit for three years without any problems, would buy another one again tomorrow. The ipod connection never worked for me, but the ability to play from a thumb drive is just as good. Oziexplorer is easy to use, though it certainly helps if you have a good understanding of maps and navigational terminology to set it up and get the most out of it, but for $40 it does everything I want it to. Just don't mention LG electrical products to me. Lifes Good = the dreaded Goldstar brand from the 80's.
