We had a very short look at the Great Wall 4x4 for Mrs MD, but the sales guy actually talked us out of buying one... Bsed on highway drivability and general up hill power, or lack there of..
Ended up with the Rav4.. Andrew has it right, better to buy an older Toyota, than one of these GW, Chery etc...
Take Hyundai's. Cheap little cars, drive well, run well, economical, but try and sell one second hand..... They depreciate quicker than any other car I have ever owned... We bought a brand new Hyundai Elantra, had it three years, only had 14000km's, need up giving the damn thing away...D4D Prado GXL - 2014. 2" OME lift, ARB Deluxe Winch bar, ARB under body protection plates, ARB EZ Deflator, Weaco fridge, Matsen fridge on slide, BFG A/T's, ARB CKMA12 compressor, Oztrail side awning with LED lights PLUS canvas extension, Lightforce XGT's.. Geaaz you guys are harsh.
There's nothing wrong with looking at other manufactures, even Chinese ones (everything else is made there!). The important thing is to acknowledge is that a GW will only be suitable as an urban bus. It cannot replace a Toyota or Nissan for long distance touring or serious offroading. So, if by 2nd vehicle, you mean to have the GW as the urban-only vehicle, then seriously, why not?glen_ep - engineered, 4" lift, 33" 255/85R16, lockers, 4.88 ratios www.pradopoint.com.au/showthread.php?17237 www.youtube.com/user/glenep www.fb.com/groups/ToyotaPrado90

Ah good to see that slap in the face worked. My first 4WD was a Rodeo, a bit gutless but other than that is was great, reliable, cheap to run, never spent a cent on it mechanically other than regular servicing. When it was time to sell I just put a sign on the window in my front yard (I live out of town in the country) Sold it the first weekend for what I was asking, could have sold it a couple of times, and the guy around the corner that bought it still tells me what a good bus it is everytime I see him and it was 7 years ago that I sold it.Originally posted by Goodwinfamily View PostGood God its like being a baby harp seal in a russian artic hunt.....Pradopoint we kill and eat our own.....LOL ....am I getting banned or what ...my other option is an older Holden rodeo around 2004 or 2005 can I be allowed to continue amongst you harsh bunch.....LOL
Why not? reliability, resale, long term availibility of parts and service (remember Daewoo) being able to show your face on PPOriginally posted by glen_ep View PostGeaaz you guys are harsh.

seriously though experience tells me that when you buy something cheap, more often than not you get what you paid for which is not much. I bought a cheap in dash GPS for my Prado and everytime I get in it I wish I hadn't!

Dont think there as bad as some people say, they are mitsi running gear and old pajeros and tritons go ok. Ok the body might be a different story I dont know but there are plenty of them getting about. Our friends have one now while I havnt driven it, I have sat in it, leather trim, few other bits and pieces which I though was ok. They love the thing, has had issues with the clutch since day one, slipping and smelling of smoke on take off, and this is not due to riding clutch but has now done 40 thou and so far still going ok. He has had it back to them to report it but they just told him thats how they are. While I wouldnt be happy with that answer he's said its ben noted and documented and had them sign it so he said if it goes while under warranty he will worry about it then. Anyway he loves it also a member of the GW forum, I do stir him up cause he tells me it was half the price of my prado but I keep saying to him yeah but its only half the car and will be worth half the amount of my prado in half the time lol. Just stirring him up..........Cheers Steve PS he will read this to.Face lift 150 Prado V6 auto. No mods yet

No not at all, she just went out an bought an Ipad, got the VMS app and told me to mount that in the Prado. Stay tuned for the mounting system, which is causing me quite a bit of head scratching but its coming together slowly.Originally posted by ntp View PostI bet MrsAJ120 reminds you of this every time too. lol

The rodeos aren't a bad bus. Those little Isuzu motors are quite reliable.Originally posted by Goodwinfamily View PostGood God its like being a baby harp seal in a russian artic hunt.....Pradopoint we kill and eat our own.....LOL ....am I getting banned or what ...my other option is an older Holden rodeo around 2004 or 2005 can I be allowed to continue amongst you harsh bunch.....LOL2011 150series GXL

The company bought a GW ute for the engineering department in Canberra. Only used to drive around the tarmac, to and from the hangar, carrying tools and the occasional wheel assembly. The engineers tell me it's rubbish, the gearbox went before 10,000km. If the running gear is Mitsu, then it must be made in China from the cans John West reject. In Sydney they use Hilux utes with no issues at all."Sure it’s quiet, for a diesel, but that’s like being well-behaved… for a murderer."- Jeremy Clarkson

LOL!Originally posted by Peterpilot View Postthe gearbox went before 10,000km. If the running gear is Mitsu, then it must be made in China from the cans John West reject.
As a side note, mitsu running gear is rubbish, we had two identical mitsu AWD magnas; in 4 years and 300,000km between them the list totaled something around; 5 gearboxes, 7 difs, countless other components, not to mention a replacement top end of the motor.
Brilliant touring vehicle and the issues only stopped me dead a couple of times but it will always be in my mind.
S/C was pretty fun though.2011 150series GXL

Funny how some people have good runs out of different products compared to others. My neighbour is now on his second mitsi pajero, first one was 92 3L V6, had a couple of small issues, coolant hose that runs through the inlet valley shat itself as you cant see it, the aircon pump went this ws due to the mechanic but as he let crap in when replacing the heater pipe, the second gear syncro was on its way out but he traded it with 300k on it onto the current 06 exceed turbo diesel, which is now coming upto 270k and besides the starter going its still going extremely well, suprisingly the injectors havnt been touched which I recomended to him only the other day to get done. He does oil filters and oil every 5 fuel and air and fuel every 20k, he had the guide check for the timing chain last service and all ok (they can let go due to the teflon part of the guide letting go and the chain grabs the metal part of the guide and bang snaps it) this can and generally does lead to a full engine rebuild when it goes. I dont know why but I agree with you in regards to magnas. crap gearboxs, blow smoke, rattle, and generally wont see over 100k with out sometimes major issues. Running gear in the pajeros must be a heap stronger (probably are due to been a 4wd) especailly the 3.2 diesel, would have to be one of the best motors I reckon, great economy, pulling power, and hardly any issues and suprisingly hear more issues with D4D toyota motors then the 3.2 mitsi ???
