ARB Recovery Points

We recently went down the path about pallet racking for our warehouse, yes you can assemble yourself and that doesn't change the SWL, but they have to be signed off by an authorised fitter for WH&S.

You what??????????????? Company rules or did you find something obscure in the harmonised legislation?

Buy their own argument, they cannot rate their recovery points unless it's connected to a particular vehicle using their own specifically designed mounting method. A freestanding recovery point ( like a single Outback Ideas one ) can only be rated / certified for it's maximum breaking strain. As they say ( correctly ) the whole ball game changes depending on how it's mounted. Using this logic, only a vehicle specific recovery point and mounting method can be rated / certified / warranted if it is installed by the manufacturer ( or their agent ). Do you see $$$$$ ?

Looking at their recovery points they are only going to fit the specific vehicle they're designed for. If you look at the pic on this site.
http://www.ausauto.com/?page_id=530 that is only going to mount to the vehicle it's designed for, and your going to struggle to mount it any way but the way they intended.

Also their saying it's only rated if used with a 4.75t schackle and a 8000kg strap, so that the strap is the weakest point in the "recovery train" so it'll break first. I'm not keen on the idea of one recovery point either, I like using the equaliser strap.

And the $$$$$ I reckon the price was built up something like this.

Funny you mention that.

I called ARB at Coopers Plains enquiring about front recovery points for my 150. The guy on the phone put me on hold whilst he looked it up. He then told me that there was none available.

This happened on Tues arvo 17th.

I put an order in at ARB Osborne Park yesterday. Cost and delivery time is not known but at least you get in the queue.

There's also sidesteps and new rails available. Not currently available for 'backorder' though.

Has anyone seen how they fit? Interested, but with all my under body protection I am not sure they will.

Hopefully they let you know when they get them. I did that for a bull bar when I first got my Prado since they weren't available yet (December 2009) and they already had a big backlog. I never heard anything and went in 6 months later or so only to be told they'd been out for ages.
