  • owning 2 Prados.........too much?

    Hi guys,

In the next couple of months, I'll in a position were my current work vehicle (which is provided) will be up on it's lease. My boss is now providing his employes with a lease option to which mean I can get whatever car i want.

I currently own a 2000 td auto gxl, with 160k which has must bells and whistles (dual lockers, slider, sonoran steel lift kit).

I've been thiking about getting a 2nd prado because by the time the lease is up (most likely a 5 year lease) my current prado would be 17-18years old, and would be getting a little old by then. The new prado would then be the tourer. And the old one would b a project vehicle.

Does sound excessive to own 2 prados.

I think everyone's dream to have a Touring Prado and a Play Prado.

One Tourdo and one Playdo, perfect!

            Seems a waste IMO.
2000 Prado with all the bells is already a great tourer.
If I had a dedicated play vehicle it'd be something VERY different.

Sounds like a great idea to me, I must say that the thought has crossed my mind more than once, although I a Hilux makes more sense for me.

              Cheers Andrew

The "playdo" would be built into something very different. I'm thinking about making it into a single cab ute, and maybe sas the old girl.

                    Whao!
If that's your idea of a play truck, then yeah, sounds like a good opportunity. Is the newer one a 120 or 150?

I thought about it. One diesel 120 tourer... And one petrol 150 series town Prado. But ended up going with a Kluger instead.

If you can get & have space for two, why not?

That's another idea to get a kluger and maybe don't go so extreme with the 90 series and keep more on the tourer side rather the crawler side of things.

However i do like diesel, which the kluger doesn't have.

If it were me (if I could have a pure weekend toy):

                          TOURER = Existing Prado

TOY = a monster build of one of these: ute chop GQ, ute chop 80, TJ Wrangler, SAS Hilux. (don't forget the old suzuki's too, not my choice though)

Another option would be to get something cheaper to lease like a Camry which would be leased for 3 years then i pass the car to my wife. I take to prado and add heaps of mods with the lease money. but i would be then putting about 25000km/year on the prado, and keep her well maintained and pocket some of the lease money (but would be taxed at 49% at the end of the financial year)

                            Andy

We have just traded the Fiesta in on a newish 150...& kept the 90 series.....
We would have gotten much the same trade-in on the 90 as the Fiesta, but this would mean I'd have to option up the 150 to take it away......
This way, the 90 will be the 4WD & the 150 the town bus.....Only the aircompressor & UHF & mobile phone aerial could be salvaged from the 90 to go onto the 150....The bullbar, tyres & snorkel etc cannot of course...& those items would not regain their value in on a trade-in....
We also have 5 kids, so the Fiesta couldn't be used that much & the times when it could, the 90 will be used to give it a run....
We stretched the 90 servicing to 10,000km intervals because we were doing 30,000km a year. Now it will be back to 6 monthly.....
Also any kms done on the 90, won't be added to the 150 so we should be able to extend its life too!
