Electronic Rust Prevention

I look at it like an insurance policy, I've had them fitted to my last 3 cars and have found them to at least keep the dark paint shiny as well as keeping rust at bay. I regularly do beach driving and believe that the electronic protection does what it is supposed top do, mind you I do clean my vehicle when I get off the beach.

Robbo your statement about the coffee table would only be true if you took the table to a lion population or lions frequently walked in he vicinity of your coffee table and your table actually kept lions away.

Hutch does take his car on the beach regularly and I have seen his cars and can vouch for their condition. Do you take your vehicle on the beach regularly and subject it to sand and salt? What colour paint is your vehicle compared to Hutch as oxidisation affects different colours.

And if you do take your car on the beach with 'no rust protection' doesn't seem smart to me. Do you drive your vehicle on the road without comprehensive motor vehicle insurance?

Like I said anything that helps stop the effects of rust is worth it to me. I have had great results from the products available. My pick is the Couplertec.

My coffee table doesn't keep lions away, that's my point, never has, never will. The fact that lions don't live in Australia keeps them away. Just like ( in my opinion) electronic rust protection didn't help keep Hutches paint looking good after 5 years, car manufactures and there manufacturing process did. Again, just my opinion.

Unfortunately I now live in Nowra, but from 07 to the end of 2010 I lived about 12k's from the Larvis Lane enterence to Stockton Beach, lived on that beach with my current Prado.

My brother Inlaw is a believer and ever time were on the beach together we have this argument, he even convinced me once and I spent ages trying the decide which brand to buy. In the end it was the fact not one company had done anything to prove their product works. How hard would it be to get two car doors connect a system to one and not the other, leave in a high corrosive environment ( not submerged or buried ) and document the results. it just seems like an easy thing to prove and not one company had done anything.

Footnote - I did find one American company that did that exact test ( car doors thing ) but they stuck the doors in the ocean. From my web searches most critics agree this would work, not good for me though as I don't leave my car under the ocean.

I can't comment on whether they work or not as I don't have one & don't personally know anyone that does, but just to expand on the subject a little, I know someone who owns a company that fits out mining vehicles with 4wd equipment & accessories for a living to satisfy their work place health and safety requirements. They have a hell of a lot of mining vehicles to get through each week and none of the mining companies fit electronic rust proofing units to their vehicles. These companies have a lot of money, but it's not that the units don't work, it's just that the car's are someone else's problem after 2 to 3 years, so why waste the money. If all of these mining companies aren't using them then I doubt many others are. After the lease if up they get the cars professionally cleaned and then auction them off by the lot full.

I have personally seen the Qld Ambulances on Nth Stradbroke Island that have these fitted and the proof that they work is that the only rust on a three year ambulance that had spent the whole time on the island was where metal bolts on the roof rack holding on lights by rubber vibration mounts ha completely rusted out.

Also have a look at the Qld Surf Lifesaving vehicles permantly on the beach they use them as well. I also understand that BHP Billiton use them on the open cut mines.

I also worked for a company that fitted out many BMA spec vehicles, also ones for Xstrata, Rio Tinto etc and these where all fitted with mining spec systems and also sprayed underneath. It never stopped the rust but from the research that BMA alone carried out it basically doubled the life expectancy of a vehicle especially in underground environments. I also now work for a company that builds and supplies specialist equipment for the mines and they are still fitted with them, on the request of the mining companies and sub contractors who purchase them...

Speak with ERPS and Couplertec and they will never tell you it will completely stop rust in these environments (or any for that fact) they will however tell you it will substantially slow it down. $80000.00 car, and a $600.00 system to protect it from all the beach driving we do it seemed like good value to me.

I have looked into electronic rust preventers over the years and from what i can tell the theory behind units is quite simple and is based on facts. I believe they would work, the problem i see is the way new cars are constructed and the materials used. I don't believe they would be 100% effective protecting the whole vehicle.

Secondly I think they are way over priced for what they are!

ERPS is one of the best systems on the market, I have fitted many of them, and infact you do not screw the coupleler to the vehicle, they only stick on, for any 4wd, you must have a 6 coupleler system as a minimum, if you do beach driving, you need an 8 system. They do work if you install them correctly, I would say by your comments thet you did not have the knowledge to correctly sell or install them.

Obviously from discussions the install is crucial to the effectiveness so can anyone recommend good installers in the Brisbane area?

Just finished fitting 4 pad couplertec on the new rig. Bit of a mission but easy enough. I would not have bought one had I not seen the differences in our work vehicles with them fitted.

I've had a 2 pad couplertech on Prado for a couple of years but it didn't stop this rust building up in only a few months.
