  • Reasonable Fuel Figures can be Obtained in V6 4L

Just got back from Perisher (snow). Had a good run, steady flow of traffic all the way back, heaps of cops there and back, no issues. Had 3 on board, little luggage and sat at the posted speed limits so wasn't babying it just to get unrealistic fuel figures, 40 psi all round (standard grandtrecks) toyota alloy bullbar. First picture was prior to green light (second tank) coming on then second picture was when it come on. I was taking a picture every 10k after 700k till the tank changed over (always changes over when the needle is showing just under half) It worked out to 11.2 L per 100k !!!!! I reckon if I wasnt using cruise I could have cracked the 11's (fluctuates a lot)

Cant complain about that for a V6. Im not here bagging the D4D or 1KZ diesels or a holden, ford debate. It will never be as good as a D4D but just for anyone thinking on which motor to go for then this is just to show that driving steady, not booting here and there all the time but doing the speed limits you can do all right and if you just dont have the funds to buy the D4D which was my case when we went the petrol (and dont regret it). Obviously this would change running muddies or even say Bf A/T's, then if you have roof racks etc. Punching through the sand dunes will obviously be a big increase in usage over the diesel. Cheers Steve

I managed 12/100 in mine on a long distance trip- with muddies, Toyota bar and lift.
With the mods now I don't think it's out of the question, just requires more careful use of the throttle.
But where's the fun in that.
2004 Prado GXL. v6 auto, ARB deluxe bar, exhaust, 2" EFS lift kit, Outback Acc rear bar,
rallye 2000 spots, roof mount dvd, dig_options stereo, toyota roof bars.
          More to come!

Yeah Timmay5.7, its good to give it a boot full every now and then just to feel alive lol. Your figures are great to considering the muddies and lift........Must also say this was not running any aircon (don't have climate control) so these figures would change in summer if using aircon..........Cheers Steve

13.8/100 with me and 3 passengers in the 120, boot loaded to ceiling with camping gear and luggage, roof luggage box and tent poles on top.

ARB bar, lifted, snorkel and Bridgestone D694LT tyres @ 39psi.

My impression (untested) is that best economy is at around 90km/h, and worsens at 100 to 110km/h.

Even that Paul is good for a load like that. Id still be extremely happy with those figures based on your load. I think its more when they are loaded and doing off road work, sand etc where they really like to drink compared to the diesel but hey cant have it both ways I suppose. Start stop kills them around town more so then diesel..........Cheers Steve

Definitely best economy at 90-100km/h (11.5l/100km)
                        Gets worse when reaching110km/h (12.5l/100km)
As tested in NT recently, at 130km/k (14l/100km)

Agree completely. Just throw a few substantial up-hills in the mix, and the needle drops as you watch! But no complaints here.

The V6 does seem to respond favourably to careful driving. I think that the occasional MAF sensor clean helps too.

                            Hey fellas

I have a question for all you V6 owners of the 120 series!! How many klms out of a tank in total do you get out of the 180 liters?

I only ever get 850 to 900 out of both tanks!!!!!! Also I've never let the fuel light come on I always fill up when I see fuel cheap, but last night it was on my way out and forgot to get fuel earlier.. By the time I got to the petrol station the fuel gauge was literally on the arse end of the "E" and I thought that it would be interesting to see how much it would take if I was right on the limit and it only took 140 liters making me think that it can't be right that there is still 40 liters left when the fuel light comes on...

Does anyone have any ideas what I can look at to fix this problem if it is not normal because I'm going crazy and considering I'm putting premium in and always have done its an expensive problem

I had fuel light come on today according to my ultra gauge 33 ltrs in tank left..

I get around 900 around town and up to 1100 hwy on standard unleaded.
