IPF 900XS Spot/Spread Question

I've just got a set of IPF 900XS lights. When I picked them up the guy in the shop opened the box, took out one light and said "this is the Spot and should go on the drivers side, the other is the spread beam".

That sounded fair enough so I took out the one he said was the spot and fitted it on the drivers side as recommended, I then took the other out and looking at it I can't see how he knew which was which - they both look the same to me and they both have 900YS on the glass.

I did try putting power on them but the beams look the same to me in daylight.

Can anyone tell me if I should be able to tell them apart or have I been given two the same?

The spot is the clear glass and the spread has a pattern in the glass

One should be a clear lens the other should have a pattern on it

If you want the IPFs for long range highway work I'd stick with 2 spots and upgrade your headlight globes.

I already have the Narva Blue Plus 90 Headlights.

I don't like the blue tint globes, I use the new Philips Extreme Vision or whatever they're called.

Difficult one to answer there - probably 60/40 Bush/Highway.

As the others have said, its pretty obvious if you have one of each which one is which. I have one of each but wish I had 2 spots, I got mine second hand so had no choice!

My reeal comment here though is why put the spot on the RHS? I have mine on the Left as that seems to make more sense to me. You want the spread so you can see the sides of the road better, presumably both sides as roo's don't know left from right in my experience. So if you want to see both sides of the road why wouldn't you fit the spread closest to the centreline of the road, that is, on the right side?

2 spots, 1 spread and a lightbar, that ought to cover all bases

Personal preference really as to which combo but after years of night time country driving I think spotting the roos as far off as possible is the best bet, if they are on the move and you see them as you are about to hit them I am not sure how that helps? The standard headlights light up the sides close by not too badly anyway.

You can buy the spot lens from ARB to replace the spread for $90.

2 spots and 2 spreads with the spreads facing slightly outwards to send the lightbeam that bit wider. With the HID upgrades, they perform beyond my expectations

Agree with letsgoplaces. I have the same 2 spots that I converted to 100w HID I got off fleabay and the light they they now output is better than I have ever seen. Also converted the 2 High beam globes to HID which then gives you the spread you need to go with the spots.
