My reeal comment here though is why put the spot on the RHS? I have mine on the Left as that seems to make more sense to me. You want the spread so you can see the sides of the road better, presumably both sides as roo's don't know left from right in my experience. So if you want to see both sides of the road why wouldn't you fit the spread closest to the centreline of the road, that is, on the right side?

    Cheers Andrew
The reason why you put the spot on the drivers side is that you get the spot light to light up down the middle of the road, giving you the greatest distance of light. It is not going to be the end of the world if you dont, but you get better performance out of your lights putting the spot to the drivers side.

I personally have the Narva 225 HID's on my rig, and they are the best light I have used thus far, (wow, thought I would never say "thus", in a comment..lol, very posh!), I do have my eye on the Fyrlyt brand though, as I think they are a very good light as well, I would never buy IPF again as for the price you pay, they are out performed by many cheaper lights. I had IPF 900 XS on my last righ, and was not very impressed with them

As new member and a person that has been removed from 4WDing for a while. How do the LED light bars compare to normal spot lights?

Good for slow bush work but they don't yet have the distance for highway work.

          Thank you D4D.

So they are more a flood light than spot then?
If so could you mount two spots and a LED bar as your spread beam?

That would be my ideal setup. Finding a home for the light bar on a Sahara bar with IPFs and a winch control box already in situ is a challenge though..

I to have just upgraded my combo set to so spots and to HID. Couldnt wait till night fall and get out to try them. They were there 55w 6000k internal balast kit. Plug and play very easy but i must say when i turned them on and they warmed up i was very dissapointed. Having light force on other cars and the brightness from halogens to these. It seems the lenses are more short didtance spots rather than long distance as you can see the round spot on the road. Maybe i was expexting to much from the kit. Any one else dissapointed?.
In another post i ave been fabricating a roof rack to house a Great white LED bar that i know works well. For tracks and tight areas you really cant go past a light bar.

I upgraded to 55watt HID and that made a massive difference. I now have 2 spread beams as the HID upgrade resulted in a wider spread of light but still with plenty of range for the driving I do.
As has been posted already you need to think about the where you will need the lights, long straights without much oncoming traffic or twisty bush or mountain style roads. Also just how fast are you going to need to see and react to a roo 1000m down the road ... not that my eyes properly see something that far away at night
Also of course is how good are the standard lights as a 90 series lights are at best woeful and have next to no range or spread standard so driving lights become the main light source on high beam.

Retro fit HID will never be as good as original fitment HID, another trap for young players is that the wattage output quoted on the retro fit ones (cheap chinese ebay stuff), is not right, they take the measurement from the wrong spot on the kit, the fact that they say 75w is actually much much lower, the 35w kits you can get from original fitment HID is actually better. And dont forget that you have to adjust the beams differently to halogen lights.

Hmmm, I thought I had spots but looking at them again today I think they are spreads as they have ripples in the glass. I've posted a pic of them on my old 90, hopefully someone here can confirm (they have ARB clear plastic covers fitted but these are just flat plastic so discount them).

OK, thanks for confirming. To be honest I've never used them on really long country roads, just knew they were bloody bright. Given I also have the fog lamps in the TJM bar (ARB bar on the 90 didn't accommodate the factory lamps) would a spot lens still be warranted?

ARB have anounced an upgrade to 100w H9 globes in their lights - should improve light output a little.

My understanding is a new heavy duty loom is required hence you can't use the 100W globes in the old 65W lights...

Just upgrade to 70w HID, output eliminates need for spread. Especially combined with high beam HID upgrade.
