  • Bring back the wave!

I've been driving a Prado for just over a year now and I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I find myself admiring other like minded Prado drivers' rigs as they pass. But I also find myself chucking out a wave in acknowledgement in a job well done (be it mods or just the fact they drive a Prado!). I remember as a young lad sharing the front seat with my Dad in the family Combi van and it was mandatory to wave to like minded VW owners as you passed. I suppose you could be waving like an idiot all day with so many Prado's on the road, but it couldn't hurt to try and bring back the wave, could it? Everything seems to be about the immediate these days, getting things immediately, only worrying about your immediate surrounds, that sort of thing, rarely considering the people around you sharing this bloody great country. Who knows, taking the time to acknowledge a stranger, just because you share a choice of car, could just make some-ones day.

Just a thought, I'll keep waving, and still get weird looks, but it might catch on (again).

    Cheers,
    Dusty.

I usually acknowledge modified Prado's. Stock ones, well they are mostly Mosman Taxis.
Although I have seen a nice stock one imported from NZ with a different rear door - no spare, have even spoken to the fella in traffic once and wave every other time.

Could start up a special Prado wave something like the 'V' accompanying those immortal nasal and whiny words "Hey Charger" used during the 70's to show ones admiration for a passing Chrysler VH Valiant E38.

The last car I had before the Prado was a Kombi Camper (immaculate). Just about every b@stard used to wave at us when we were out on the road

We don't wave to people in towns in Mongolia (unless your friend or somebody you know) but the countryside is totally diffent to what you are used to in Towns.

on the long trip into countryside, we stay in or put our camp near a nomadic herder. go into home and some City stuffs like candy for kids and a vodka or beer for the Husband, food items for the wife etc. if the family cook you nice milk tea and offer dinner. you can be sure you can stay in thier ger (specially in winter) for the overnight.

we always converse when passby. it insures in part notify of danger ahead.

            Regards Gantulga

A few years ago we did the Maui Camper van thing in NZ. We had a ball and everyone seemed to have their own type of wave at one another (kinda like a secret handshake) The Missus and I had loads of fun with it....

On my way out of Loxton, a few of the 2012 GTG crew were still rolling in. I waved to them but no one responded. Strange thing is that my eldest noticed me waving and asked me if I knew them. The missus pips in saying they're daddy's "friends" while rolling her eyes.

Sometimes when someone is waving at you it is not because they want to say hello:

I remember the days when Dad was on the road with trucks and prime movers. We used to always wave to every on coming truck be it a raise of the fingers on the wheel and almost always get a return wave. Often you see the same trucks on our weekly trip to Melbourne and Sydney. At night you would rest lol.

I give fellow modified Prado owners a wave. Haven't got one back yet....a sign of the times I guess.

By wave, do you mean the raising of one or two fingers off the steering wheel? That's the standard "wave" in these parts. And yes, everyone gets it, regardless of what they are in.
