  • Air condition problems can you help? Needs a service

Hi guys sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread. When I bought my 04 prado air con was not cold. A mechanic I know regassed it and it was hot the next day. We then replaced o rings in the low and high pressure lines and it has worked well for 3 months. Now its only cold on the right vents and not the left. The left go cold if I shut the right vents. Very weird! Also the right vents aren't as cold as they were previously so just thinking its on its way out again. Anyway sorry for the rant but wanted to know whether anyone has any advice or also if they know someone I can take it to for a service/repair in
    Brisbane?

    Thanks guys!

Maybe a stuck heater tap or the something blocking the door that flows air past the evaporator, know their a prob on older prados with cable controls thought the 120's were vaccuum operated??
Also perhaps a blockage in the tx valve could be the culprit, although since its still cooling some this doesnt seem likely.
Cant help you with a service agent, maybe ask a few people locally to see whos good and who to avoid.

    Cheers, GVX.

Ok guys so this is still an issue apparently?!?

It seems about every 6-8 months my air con goes hot and it gets re-gassed and then fine for 6-8 months again. No one can find the leak, its been to 3 mechanics so far and counting...

I had it refilled last march, and on the weekend I could see gas coming out the vents (looked like mist) in the car then it went hot and the fan pressure actually got very low, could barely feel any air coming out of the vents at all. Started the car next day and a/c was cold again however the fan didnt feel like it was pumping out enough air but I thought ok that was odd. After driving for 2 hrs, a/c went hot again and had no more pressure coming out the vents. Please help me, I am at my wits end!

The evaporator is freezing up. The gas you can see is water vapour. I'd suggest there's a problem with the thermistor, a new one is around $20 trade from toyota.

Yeah totally agree with Adrian, evap freezing up on you. You can replace the thermistor yourself shit easy. Just some pics I put up a while back. Don't worry about all the blah blah blah about aircon not being cold and modifications etc, mainly just to show you where the thermistor is placed... Cheers Steve

Thanks guys this is a big help and for once it is something relatively cheap to replace! will get onto Toyota today. Would this also explain why the air pressure begins lacking after a while if the evap is freezing up? Makes sense I suppose

Does anyone have a part no for this? I just got off the phone with toyota who advised as it is GX model with no climate control it doesn't have a thermistor. I will pull the glovebox out and see if I can remove the thermistor and maybe take it down and see if that helps?

managed to get a number out of him, 8862535080 its about $30, is this the right part?
