I hear what you are saying but I think I can live with the slight loss in space. I did find a review that concerned me a bit :-

      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/waeco-cfx-65dz.html

Talking to BCF they said you set the temp for the freezer and the cold air spills over the top of the divider into the fridge side through some holes, the fridge side ends up about 10 degrees cooler. I asked if the food might block the holes and cause issues and they said no and that they work really well. Just wish there was someone on here who has actually used one who could confirm this.

Its had the same set up that we had in the CF80 (yes ive had a few waecos ) worked well as long as you had frozens in the freezer part,I used to put frozen bottles of water in to full the space.

What happened if you didn't have the frozen bottles of water in? If you just set it to fridge temp without the divider would it still work?

I have an Evakool 60l dual compartment fridge.
Found the holes in the divider didn't let enough cold air to the fridge section.
Overcame the problem by putting a small slice of cork under the divider, allowing the cold air under as well as through the divider.
Also put a 1.5 cm thick piece of foam over the top of the freezer section.
Made the entire thing much more efficient.

In my view however I reckon 2 fridges would be better - smaller one a dedicated freezer, the other a fridge.

            Cheers
            Ron

Yes it worked ok with out the divider just remember there is no cooling on the far side of the fridge only in the freezer compartment, As rhs58 has said you cant beat the two fridges, makes life very easy.

Thanks for the suggestions. Did the Evakool not have a separate lid over the freezer section? Just trying to work out what the foam was for.

LOL, I once bought a bar fridge out of the Trading Post and carted it all the way to Mallacoota just so I could have ice cream. Only drawback is you need a powered site.

That would be ideal but I can't justify that for the amount we will use it. I've explained all the points you guys have raised to Mr Fido and he still wants to go the dual zone route. So, an order has been placed for the Waeco CFX65DZ and shall see how it goes. At least buying a name brand from a big box store I can take it back if it doesn't do the job.

Freezer section has a separate lid, but found that whatever was on top got slightly defrosted
by the warmer air coming through the hole in said lid.
Convection makes the cooler air fall through the freezer in to the fridge section, warm air from the fridge section rises and moves across to above the freezer and then down through the frozen goods.

The foam provided a little more insulation is all.

we are 2 & a half months into our oz trip, we have a 90lt 3way ( 7lt freezer) and a waeco cdf45. we seem to be getting bye pretty well and personally i wouldn't want to be carrying around anything to much bigger. we are going around 7 days between shops.
The 3way has had it struggles with heat in some places, sitting on 10 deg but the freezer part is doing its job. anything we really need cold just goes into the waeco. only put what beers i think ill drink in it daily to save room. also if your running 2 compressor fridge/freezers you need the juice to have them running around the clock ? bigger batteries /solar panels and a geny for charging when its overcast or rainy.

i am running a primus mammoth 65L dual zone. they run the same danfoss compressor as the waeco. the reason I went this is because it is a dual zone which actually has dual lids. the ability to use one freezer, one fridge, both freezer or both fridge. I mainly use the right side for drinks and left for food so im not constantly letting the cold air out by getting drinks out.

its a great fridge, solid construction which I find a lot better than the waecos etc but its a personal oppinion.

I paid about $1050 for memory, including the transit bag 12 months ago. Has been used multiple times and very good. My mate has the 92L and got me onto them because he loves his.

Trev we have the same setup as Pedro. Been away 4 months with 2 to go. Wife, me & 8 yo daughter. Both fridges bought 2nd hand and at least 5 years old.

50lt Fridge has worked fine but we did have the fan fall off it's mount and snap 1 blade off when we got back from Cape York rough stuff. Made me realise we are lucky to have the 18 as a back up should the 50 fail completely. Since then we've crossed the gulf and done the Gibb plus many other rough and remote tracks with no issues.

The 18 freezes fine in the top section but the bottom section next to the motor doesn't freeze too well so we leave a plastic container in their with nothing in it. Leaves us 12lt freezer I reckon.

If we plan it and freeze all items at once so they fit into the freezer properly we could easily do 10 days away with our setup. W
