When I was living up North a few of us used to go mud bashing and I reckon it took longer to clean the mud off than the time we were playing. Bit surprised that truck wash was linked to corrosion. I don't use the stuff because I think it is too aggressive but who knows, I haven't washed the 150 properly since buying it, except for an under body/chassis wash after its first trip to the beach and even then it didn't actually go on the beach just sand tracks.

Seems to me everyone is missing the obvious place to start as far as removing MUD from under the car goes! Check the weather forecast, there is no better/easier way to reove mud from under the Prado than to go for a drive on the bitumen in the rain making sure you detour into every puddle of water you can find.

I have a couple of great spots around here where deep pools form after rain, great for cleaning underneath with multiple passes through them.

The hard part is all the nooks and crannies, yeah spend money on a pressure cleaner if you like, but I have a much cheaper option thats will never wear out. Just got some old copper pipe, 90 degree bend in one end, flatten the end to make it spray in a fan pattern and increase the pressure add a tap and hook up to the garden hose, cheap pressure cleaner that is great for getting into the chassis rails and all the other nooks and crannies like bash plates and above the fuel tanks etc etc.

I actually had access to an industrial pressure cleaner but preferred my home made copper pipe as it did a better job.

        Cheers Andrew

i previously used this after years and years of motocross riding, CT18 is the only thing that gets the mud off properly! I even used to just spray on leave for 5-10 mins then hose off and it still works a treat!

Plenty of rain about here in Melbourne today, St Kilda Rd is usually a good place for big puddles after decent rainfall. I'll be going that way this arvo to/from work, maybe that will wash the last of the mud off the underside.

I have always been paranoid about what mud etc was left under the car, chassis etc. Now I dont have to be, it was amazing what was left under the car when I moved it.

Sorry to revive old thread but has anyone else used one of these and found it to be effective? I got in under mine with the hose last time I washed it but there still seems to be a lot of dirt stuck to everything (went through a bit of mud/red clay). I was concerned about using the Karcher under there other than lightly in case it stuffed any seals, etc.

I just get under there with the normal end bit on the Karcher. Or a hose if I can't be bothered getting it out of the shed.
Having said that my handbrake was seized after the last wash so need to be more careful next time

I invested in a 3/4 inch hose from Bunnings. It delivers much more flow.

#1 son bought one of the underbody rotary cleaner things from Karcher. Pity I have a spitwater pressure cleaner but 20 minutes with the oxy and some brazing gear and it fits. Works really very well. At least on a P-ute.

Been using one of these for 2 years and it works great. I fill the bottle with cheap sugar soap and let it soak for 10 mins then give a good rinse off.

Corine that is what #1 bought. Three nozzles come with it so higher flow, lower pressure through to lower flow and higher pressure. Using the highest flow nozzles I doubt there is enough pressure to do any damage to seals and it works far better that I expected. Comes with karcher K mount so a metal tube and ridiculous plastic bayonet. However and old different brand gun, an adapter 2 and some brazing or silver soldering and it can be adapted to the spitwater unit.

I've got one, but haven't had a chance to use it in anger yet... I did try it out though and it did seemed to find some more dirt than the hose had left. It doesn't fire out at the same pressure as normal Karcher wand so I would presume it is ok for the seals.

Its easier on the back too.

Hi all, it might be a dumb question, but I used my karcher under the wheel arches and it took some of the black crap from under it. now you see hwite, the colour of the car.
What does the black crap do? is it cosmetic only, should i be looking to replace it. New car and dont want it to go bad from here.
Thanks for all who view and respond.

R2d2 it would be the stone protection/sound deadening. You can buy more from Supercheap in a spray can or paint tin size which would need a brush. The spray can would be the ideal way would look more like a factory finish. I would certainly redo it to stop stone chips under the guards there fore stoping potential rust spots where the stones chip the paint away.... Cheers Steve
