Yeah, a mate at work just leased a 3'series BMW and he was telling me it costs 4k to replace brake pads and rotors which they recommend at around 40-50k mark......

I think I would pass on buying anything like that too.....

    • Rob,

It was probably in the lowered park mode as it has the air suspension. Drive mode is a bit higher and it has two off road heights selectable which can lift it around 65mm above normal drive height.

Just remember to swap it when the warranty runs out or 2 years, whichever is the shorter. These are not Toyotas.

Here is a contender for Prado Replacement:

A bit dear new, but they depreciate fast. Probably not too bad second hand.

        • After having 2 120 D4D Prado's now way would I buy the ugly duckling 150, son of ugly 200, Toyota have lost
The plot, I've had 2 Disco 2's which can be problomatic, but a good off roader. I've driven a Range Rover Sport across Europe,
Great to drive, cramped in back seats but IMO Best looking 4x4 ever! Toyota build good reliable vehicles but I think we've all
Experienced their poor after sales. If I was dumping my Beaut D4D 120 & I could afford it, I try a Disco 4, they keep winning awards
So it must be doing ok! If I wasn't going off road I'd give the new RR Sport a go.

              That would be a challenge

              I'd get a Jeep over a Disco, and I wouldn't get a Jeep...

                • even the disco 4's look very low when driving around town.

do they have adjustable suspension standard or are they modded to be used on serious offroad?

The Disco's have air suspension standard across the range, couple with their terrain response system which, by all accounts, is awesome.

                    • I've always wanted one of these but don't think the wife would give up the comfort of the Prado - Pinzgauer 712

My uncle owned 2 Haflingers in the 90's which were awesome fun, and this is its big brother.

                      1,000 Kg payload

                      45 degree approach and depature
                      43.5 degree side slope
                      Portal axles
Slight articulation issuses but with front and rear diff locks drives fine with wheels up in the air

                        • Yes..... I can see ourselves in one of these as our 3 kids get to their teenager years..... Just don't like the QLD V8 rego costs that go along with it.......

Not sure if they are still experiencing any problems with the 200's either...... There was the oil / engine issue which has been sorted from what I've been told.....

It was a lot more bang for buck he thought but as you say the big unkown is reliabilty and service.
I will be interested to hear your feedback 3 - 6 months in. Hope you get a good run out of it.
Inspection will be required at the next steak night then in the carpark!

                            Hi Rob,
Well we have had the Jeep now for a bit over 12 months so here is some feedback as requested.

We have now done round 30000km and the only problem affecting performance was the early failure of the DPF at round 1300km I think. That seems to have been fixed and we haven't had any further issues with it. There have been a few minor issues and these have mostly been fixed including the new reversing camera.

It certainly hauls the van much better than the Prado and has heaps of power and better fuel consumption. There are no issues with the transmission or water temperatures when towing - it evens comes standard with a transmission temp gauge.

There is a bit less room inside but that hasn't been an issue for us now that we have the van.

Of the 30000km, approx half would have been towing our van ATM 2750. Roads we have travelled on include all round Tasmania, Plenty/Donahue Hwy, parts of the Binns Track, Chambers Pillar, Palm Valley, the loop road to Kings Canyon, Oodnadatta Track and around Flinders Ranges. So you can see we have been to some remotish places.

Comfort wise, it is as good as the Prado and better in some areas. The front seat warmers were certainly appreciated in the 0deg in the East MacDonnell Ranges.

Overall, we are more than happy with our choice.

                            Graham
