  • The Rangey is awesome comfort in all ways, it beats my grande easily. Power wise it cannot be matched.. But I wouldnt want to be taking it offroad.. actually it hasnt been..
Its just the price tag is way more than a Prado too.. lol Over 120K now I think..

    • I have a friend with a Defender. Neat looking truck. But it came with free road-side assist. Just as well because it's always breaking down. Landies, you either love 'em or hate 'em.

Friend of mine runs a safari and hunting operation in Africa, runs Landcruisers (1x40, 2x76 ,1x79 series and a Defender 90). A direct quote from a recent email "With all this rain recently I've been driving the little landie a lot. It leaves the cruisers for dead in the mud. Just a pity its in the workshop every second day". Says it all really.

Ha! I will be sure to tell him that. He tried to test drive one (Defender) at a dealer a couple of weeks ago. The sales rep wouldn't make the effort to get it off the lot onto the street. When questioned, his reasoning was that people test drive them and never buy. He can always tell when someone is a die hard Land Rover fan.

          • My brother-in-law had a Disco with all the fruit. It got stuck at the bottom of a hill south of Cook town heading towards the Daintree when the traction control decided it didn't want to climb the hill. I had to tow him over with my Prado.

What did you chose in the end?

              Cheers

              • Robert,

The only vehicle that ticks all the right boxes for us is the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It hauls 3500kg and has all the comfort and features of the Prado that we want and more.

From reading other forums, I was surprised by the number of Prado owners changing to the new Jeep. The Jeep Grand Cherokee outsold the Prado in July and August.

Apart from some minor issues that have mostly been fixed, all owners seem more than happy with their new vehicles. The biggest complaints seem to be with Jeep Australia and their poor customer service.

Hopefully, we will have ours around the end of October.

Anyone want to buy a Prado 150 GXL D4D?

                • Hmm, i am biased but really, if i were you, i would not want to switch from Toyota to a lesser mortals like the jeep brand, or any other made in USA thingies for that matter.
specially the new grand cherokees have CVT in 'em so even if how good they are on the paper, you can't really pull all the stuff for long

                  • Please keep us informed of your impressions and experience with the Jeep.
Not my cup of warm beverage and I have never been impressed with the quality of American cars. A colleague bought one, partly for the 3500kg towing capacity. He did one trip to Cape York and sold it as soon as he could upon returning.

                    • I hope your jeep is better than my experience. I had a tj wrangler highly modified, great offroad would go anywhere but a bucket to drive on the road, drivetrains arent very strong, parts are expensive and resale value is rubbish.

only a personal oppinion, as I said I hope your experience is better.

how much are you asking for the 150?

                      • One of my reps bought a Cheeroke, it is 10 months old done approx 35000k's and sounds like a tractor now. Service organisation is woeful, she has had 3 services and everytime had to reschedule as they overbooked or didn't have parts to repair. Be careful.

It is a bit hard when Toyota don't make a vehicle that meets our needs.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee has an 8 speed gear box not CVT.
